Meet Daissy Oluoch of Lacedbraids in Southwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daissy Oluoch.

Daissy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Born in Kenya raised in Newark, New Jersey moved to Texas in 2013. As a young girl in Kenya almost everyone knew how to do hair, never in a million years did I think I’d have my own business selling hair and doing hair. I learned how to braid in primary school back in Kenya, we used to braid these leaves into baskets for class but hair was not what I thought my purpose was.

I always loved doing my own hair, I loved how I could do any style just by looking at it, I can make any hairstyle fit me I call it “finessing” I can make any hairstyle work. My friends started asking me to do their hair and I did. I was doing hair for fun and I loved doing it. Sophomore year of college, I decided to take my craft seriously I did hair but no one knew. I made it my mission to showcase what I love to do. Summer 2018 Lacedbraids was created. Why did I pick the name lacedbraids? Laced means to add to something when I do hair I’m “finessing” the hair. Since then, I’ve worked in Hair salons, got the opportunity of hairstyling XXL nominee 24kgoldn and I sell wigs shipping worldwide @lacedbraids on Instagram. Hair brings confidence to a lot of women and I’m honored to have my work on beautiful women across the world.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. Starting your own business is hard. In the beginning, I doubted myself because I felt like no one supported me. I used to get sad when people I called friends wouldn’t post my work or buy my wigs but I realized you never know who watching. If you believe in yourself, you can achieve the unbelievable.
