Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Harris and Sydnie Boyd.
Madison and Sydnie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
One day while we were in undergrad at Prairie View A&M University, we thought about starting our business. In March 2020, Covid hit and put the world on pause and we had so much more time on our hands because we were stuck in the house and for that reason, we decided to stop talking about and be about it. Then finally, in July 2020, we were able to launch Dear Divas.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. With perseverance and resilience, we understand that achieving success takes time. Along the way, we have run into a couple of hurdles, such as branding and getting our name out there. Having patience and really understanding that truly starting from the bottom takes time and nothing in life comes easy or everyone would be doing it. We continue to work on our business in hopes to inspire women all around the world through fashion.

Dear Divas is an online clothing store and is owned and operated in Houston, TX. We are always motivated and inspired by the hardworking and goal-driven women in the world. We believe you should always look your best. Why not look good while being a diva? We are most proud of our ability to cater to all women and that we are a black-owned business. We brainstormed this idea back in 2013 when we were in college at the Prairie View A&M University. We finally took a leap of faith and launched Dear Divas in July 2020. Our values are passion, customer service, integrity, and being your own brand. Why?
We believe in what we do. We want to ensure that you have the best experience. We are always here to help. It is vital we work with trust, transparency and honesty. Lastly, Being yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
We feel as though Houston is the perfect place to start a business like ours. While we believe Houston is a great city to start your business in the fashion/retail industry, we believe it is best to be in cities like Los Angeles, NYC, or Atlanta for better opportunities. You see a lot of businesses in our industry relocate to these cities to run their businesses out of. The majority of the vendors/manufacturers we use are based out of those cities. Living in Houston, it can be a challenge because you are hoping that the products we are buying wholesale are truly how they look in the picture. However, if we lived in those major cities with fashion districts, we could go in person and see them with our own eyes. Even though it is a challenge not being able to see the products in person before purchasing, we read every review and YouTube reviews on the vendors we use.
