Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Elliott.
Kimberly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a stay at home mom, I am starting volunteering for the Fort Bend County Women’s Center and truly found a passion for service. I decided that I wanted to pursue this space as a career and was lucky enough to land a job as a Program Director. In an effort to learn more about nonprofits, I enrolled myself in the Rice University LINE Program and received a certificate after the nine-month program. I was able to learn so much and meet so many great people.
It has been eight years and I have had a dream to work as an Executive Director. That came true in January of 2020 when I accepted the position with a small but mighty group called Hunt with Heart.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think every road is smooth or every journey is without setbacks, but they usually turn out to be lessons in disguise. One unanticipated set back was COVID 19! I was just getting started at HwH when all hell broke loose with this pandemic. We are lucky at Hunt with Heart to have an amazing staff, a board of directors and donors that have been supportive as we have been pivoting in every area! We have had to revisit everything from programs to fundraising. We are hopeful that the things we have put into motion will bridge the gap to whenever ” things get back to normal.”
Please tell us about Hunt With Heart Incorporated.
Hunt with Heart, founded in 2011 by Crystal and Toby Kroeger, is a 501c (3) non-profit organization made up of dedicated volunteers, staff, and Board Members, who share the passion for changing the lives of young people battling life-threatening illnesses. Hunt with Heart’s mission is to empower and enhance the lives of children with severe illnesses through unforgettable outdoor experiences. From the first hunting experience to make a little boy’s dream come true over eight years ago, Hunt with Heart has grown into a successful and rapidly growing charity dedicated to serving over 100 young people and their families.
Hunting, fishing, shooting sports, archery, and monthly outdoor activities are among the many opportunities we provide. But we also grant academic scholarships and a family assistance fund. Once our members experience a Hunt with Heart activity, they are no longer just kids fighting an illness all alone. They become part of the Hunt with Heart family creating friends and family bonds for a lifetime.
