Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabbath Ekene.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sabbath. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My staffing and recruiting story started right out of college when I was looking for a job. A galleria legal recruiting firm hired me as their Receptionist. I worked there for years and eventually started helping in more arenas. Who would have thought many years later I’d own my very own staffing and recruiting franchise.

After I worked at the legal recruiting firm, I always tell my Randstad story as “God brought me Randstad.” Indeed God brought me Randatad as I still don’t know how they got my information, perhaps through LinkedIn. I was then in between offers. I chose Randstad. My choice was one of the best decisions of my life.

I enjoyed working at Randstad (Spherion Staffing’s parent company). Then one day, I decided to search and see what else is out there in our large organization. I saw that there were franchise opportunities with Spherion. I then started saving money and prepared for the biggest presentation of my life in front of the CEO. Here I am today, a living testimony of how one can truly pursue their dreams. I own my Spherion Staffing branch and John fills my heart.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every business owner has a story. In fact, everyone has a 2020 story since this interview was during this year. I’ll share both. When I first started my business in 2019, everything was perfect. I also got married in 2019 to my handsome supportive husband. Life was perfect.

2019 then took a different turn as two family members were hit by a driver who ran a red light. My world stopped as I thought I would lose them both. But God! God spared their lives and although the journey to recovery has been long, I am still grateful to God for protecting their lives.

Then 2020, most of our clients laid off their workers as they were affected so we’re we. I didn’t know what to do but pray. Then in 2020, I was hospitalized for many weeks. Then in 2020, I experienced a family loss. A loss too painful to describe. Then in 2020, another client had to lay off workers. But God! He’s still good and I am still grateful because I’m in the midst of it all I can still hold onto Jesus. I realized so many people go through so many trials in this world, but we must still stay strong.

Business leaders must still stay strong and still go on. Only a few people knew I was hospitalized in August and September. My clients and Spherion employees were still well taken care of. I brought my laptop and it still was Business as usual. I could have told them but what difference would it have made? Businesses must still go on. My dear husband, family, and friends have been so supportive during the various trials I’ve experienced. For that, I am grateful and thankful.
