Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline Batson.
Caroline, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was in a very strict Ballet School as a child…. but have always loved to dance. I am a graduate of The University of Nevada, Reno with a degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Dance. While at the University I was asked by the university theater department to choreograph “Jesus Christ Superstar”, this launched my love for choreography, theater, and dance, and I wanted more. So, after I graduated from UNR, I had a professional career dancing, and worked with celebrities like Debbie Reynolds, Suzanne Somers, Charo, Jim Naybors, Juliette Prowse, to name a few. I also loved to teach. So I taught ballet, jazz, tap and modern dance at different dance studios and venues for many years while homeschooling our two children. I would take jobs that paid and some that did not…just to pass on my love for dance and theater. An opportunity came along in 2011 to open my own studio. Within a few months I was on my way with my own business: Performing Arts Center of The Woodlands. PACTW truly is a miracle business! That first year we hit the ground running, and haven’t stopped since. My husband, Curt, is a very talented actor, singer, and writer, and together we create a very special kind of Spring Performance for our students. We tell a unique and entertaining story through our musical theater classes, and all the dance classes fit in. I think this is why we are enjoying our business so much. Our students are the stars of our show. Some dance, some act and sing, and all have a wonderful experience. Every child is awarded a trophy for their hard work at the end of the year. Our students learn discipline, and that they can accomplish their dreams.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No journey is made up entirely of smooth roads; however, it is a blessed exhaustion at the end of each day that we would not trade for anything.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Performing Arts Center of The Woodlands – what should we know?
We teach children from the ages of two to eighteen the fundamentals and joy of dance and theatre. We like to think we’ve taken a dance school to a new level, incorporating acting and singing, and allowing each student to advance at their own pace, developing strong character values, self-esteem, and poise.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Helping to identify the individual personalities, and talents of each child that walks through our door. And teaching with kindness, and genuinely caring for our families.
