Today we’d like to introduce you to Reginald Scott.
Reginald, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Most individuals have a struggle story or come from a background that wasn’t picture-perfect, like me. Growing up in a single-parent household, cooking was forced upon me. It wasn’t something I dreamed of being. I went to culinary school because my mom told me not to. She knew it would be a struggle for me to complete it, seeing that I had struggled for the previous twelve years. I didn’t fall in love with the art of cooking until after I completed school while working for multiple high-end Memphis restaurants. There, I realized the control that I had over this skill; the power to express my emotions through my food. Not being able to express my emotions through food, exactly how I wanted, forced me out of cooking. Between 2011 to 2015, I ventured into fitness, where I had a successful run. However, my heart led me back to the kitchen, which forced me to take my talents to Houston, TX.
The thriving culinary influence that Houston has drawn me to the city. Landing a job with the restaurant Kulture, working under James Beard Nominee Chef Dawn Burrell, unleashed my natural creative juices. Here, I was able to tap into my will power to fight through adversity. I accomplished a promotion to Executive sous chef, competing in numerous award-winning culinary competitions, winning the GR8T Taco Challenge and Houston Top 100 two years in a row, and so many more accomplishments. This kitchen provided a great environment for constant growth and success. The heavy-hearted decision to move my career forward took place in February of 2020.
I live by the quote, “You cannot break down what can’t be broken.” Three years ago, when I experienced a motorcycle accident that could have taken my life, I thought it was the end for me. I thought everything that I had accomplished was over. But with a great support team, I was able to come back harder. In my downtime, I perfected a brand that will provide for my family for years to come. I introduce to the world Best Damn LLC, where skills unfold and bringing flavor that is unmatched.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth is subjective. I thrive in the face of adversity. My entire journey has been about overcoming obstacles. With the roller coaster of 2020, it has taught me to pivot my talents in many different ways, such as producing my own sauce, becoming a restaurant consultant, promoting my catering business, and taking gigs as a private chef.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Best Damn Everything story. Tell us more about the business.
What sets Best Damn LLC apart from other companies is the tenacity of its owner. My drive and personality to not fail and bring about success to everything I touch is what they love me for. My pallet and my ability to create is what I am known for. With those characteristics, all in one is how Best Damn Everything became a company. I’m most proud of the support that I receive from people of different cities, backgrounds, and walks of life.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
None. I do not believe in luck. Everything that happens is by chance.
