Meet Gabriela, Claudia and Adriana Medina of Pekaditos in North Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela, Claudia and Adriana Medina.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Since we can remember, we have always wanted to have our own little business. Growing up seeing our dad start his own business, we knew it would be hard but we were willing to take the challenge on. During COVID, we had so much free time due to the lack of hours at our jobs, we didn’t want to go to waste. I (Gaby) remember us going to Target and buying a notebook, puzzles and anything to keep us entertained during these times. We got home grabbed the notebook and started writing what we wanted out of life, the things we wanted to accomplish and the goals we wanted to meet. My sister Claudia was the one to take the plunge, starting with the original chamoy dip and I decided to make refreshing drinks that paired well with it during a hot summer day. My big sister Adriana’s creative instinct kicked in and that’s when Pekaditos all started. With the business name and plan set we got to work. We wanted to present our drinks in a unique way and stick with our Mexican roots. We decided to go with the typical Mexican cantarito but wanted to give it more life. We started painting each individual cup with a nopal (cactus) and started setting up every weekend, Saturday and Sunday, rain or shine.

At the beginning of our new venture, we would set up with the mentality of selling just one drink or chamoy dip that day. That was already an accomplishment for us! We can remember the first non-relative customer and our happy dance after they left. In addition to setting up on the weekends, we offered deliveries during the week. We were going from north to south Houston, Katy to LaPorte, we didn’t mind; we wanted to get our name out! We are eternally blessed to have such a supportive family that not only showed up every weekend but helped us market with their close friends and acquaintances. We started off with one chamoy dip flavor and two drinks, now we offer 6 different chamoy dip flavors, five different Aguas Frescas, and two seasonal drinks. Social media has made a great impact, especially TikTok, which is where we initially had most of our popularity. We now have customers from all over Texas who are willing to make the drive to Houston just to try our products. We are grateful for all the support and prayers our family, friends, and customers have sent our way. We are excited to keep going as our dreams and goals keep getting bigger!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, if we can compare our journey to an ice cream flavor it would definitely be Rocky Road. From the long nights, keeping up with demand, and some breakdowns here and there; we have been able to overcome them and unite even more as sisters. Having the support from our mom and dad has been amazing, we do not know where we would be without them! We take every challenge and work with it. Trying to run your own business while still having full-time jobs is very hard; we decided that at least one of us needed to focus on Pekaditos full-time to be able to pursue this dream but even that sometimes doesn’t feel like it is enough.
