Today we’d like to introduce you to Kandice Miles.
Kandice, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a hobby, I would do apartment and home searches based on random criteria whatever I felt at the moment. I’d like to see the different options available for different lifestyles. My mom and I would also go drive around and tour model homes and try and find some open houses we could look at because it’s fun for us! One day we went to this one open house, it was a townhome in Third Ward going for about $700k, I believe. The realtor showing us the home told us how he was able to create a very comfortable lifestyle doing what he does and that just made me realize I should get into real estate! It was something I was obviously already interested in so I went for it. Now, I’m an apartment locator, which I enjoy very much. It’s fast-paced, and I get to see a lot of beautiful places and learn more about the city. It also feels good being able to help so many different kinds of people find the perfect place to live and they’re very grateful for you as well so it’s a good feeling.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve had plenty of struggles along the way. I actually started interning in August of 2019 and got my license in November 2019, all while I was in my last semester of college. When I became a licensed agent, it was time for me to go out and find my own leads but I had a very difficult time and it was beginning to get frustrating. I eventually switched brokerages and worked on a very small team where I was given many leads and a lot of one on one mentoring time, which was great. My team leader was a high producing agent so he received a lot of leads and he was very busy so things started to get a bit overwhelming for me. Also, I went into real estate financially unprepared and it’s an expensive business to get into! With everything piling up and me still being a new realtor with little experience, a few closed deals under my belt, and consistent real estate bills, I decided to take a break before I got to the point where I wanted to quit forever. I took a few months off and now I’m back into it with a much more positive outlook and I’m a lot happier with it!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
As an apartment locator, I help people search for their perfect apartment. Looking for an apartment can be very time-consuming and overwhelming, especially if you don’t know what you’re looking for. That’s when I step in and take that time off of your hands, you let me know what you like and I find it for you. I have access to over 500,000 complexes in the Houston Region alone so I will be able to help you find the BEST options in a smaller amount of time than you would on your own.
This is something I’d do for fun before I was a realtor so this is something I genuinely enjoy doing. I feel like when you’re happy with what you’re doing, then you perform better and better performance means a better experience for your clients.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far was closing a deal on a home with no help. I’m the type to ask 100+ questions to make sure I’m doing everything right so to be able to get through the entire process on my own was very fulfilling and encouraging.
