Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Wilkins.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My passion has always been in the kitchen. I learned and loved to bake along-side my dear grandmother, as she prepared goodies our family. The artistry of measuring and mixing intrigued me at a very young age. I began experimenting with a sound recipe of a little of this, and dash of that, and the most important ingredient was love!
This interest grew into a burning desire to share the sugar as often as possible. After many cake decorating courses and culinary training, I begun to create special cakes for my friends and family. The circle of friends and family grew into an amazing journey. I started my cottage bakery business in 2004. It began to consume our home and with much love and support from my family – we ventured out at opened the storefront in 2015. It has been an incredible experience for us all. We are a family business, and feel as though our customers are family too!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The giant step to open the storefront was a huge risk, as we had no idea what all that it would involve and require.
Learning the mass volumes of materials, product and consumers was a bit of a struggle.
However, we have adjusted and feel much more confident.
It has been a success thus far; but as in every road – there are a few bumps.
Please tell us about Heather’s Peace of Cakes.
Peace of Cakes creates delicious cupcakes, cookies, macarons, and custom ordered cakes.
We are a FRESH bakery – with amazing flavors that set us apart from others. We provide a seasonal daily rotating menu so that every day is a different flavor at Peace of Cakes.
Our friendly team wishes for our customers to feel comfortable, yet excited to experience our sugar groove!
The atmosphere at Peace of Cake is fun and funky in hopes you will forever remember your stop in our shop.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I honestly do not know what I would have done differently. I feel that every bump, every curve in every journey to success has a purpose… to help us grow and learn – and to become better, stronger people.
