Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Udoh.
Danielle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started this brand during quarantine and it was not planned at all. It all began when I taught myself how to sew for fun in December 2019 by just altering a pair of jeans. Ever since then, I never had time to make clothes because school took up a lot of my time. When quarantine began, I started to make pieces with the new free time I had. I decided to make a TikTok and post my work and it went viral. I kept on posting my work and surprisingly people liked it almost every time. I officially launched my brand NADI by Dani on July 19th, 2020.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road because I have taught myself everything. I started this brand without much planning because it was a quick push into the social media world with my videos/pictures constantly going viral. There have been many times that I have messed up but it’s all a learning experience. I believe it’s better to start and learn along the way than wait to be “more educated” before starting. Mistakes happen all the time but as a business owner it is important to use the mistakes to learn.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about NADI BY DANI – what should we know?
Nadi by Dani is a Womenswear brand. The clothing brand showcases pieces that are made to make people feel confident when they wear it. Everything that I put out is a piece that I would buy if I saw it in stores. Every single piece is designed and hand crafted by me. Most people know me for my clothing videos that go viral on twitter. Social media has been a crucial tool for when it comes to gaining potential customers and supporters.
I am most proud of the quick support the brand has received from many people because I did not expect it when I started. Whenever I design, I do it because I love it and have a passion for it. When people love my work that is just so heartwarming because I never expect all the love I am get. Consistency has been very crucial to my success with social media. As I become more consistent with my social media, my support has been growing which is not easy to do.
I believe my creative ideas set me apart from many others. When I creative I want people to feel like they have artwork on and not just another piece from a clothing store. The goal is make the customers feel like they are wearing designer because that is the way the brand is marketed. As a premium brand, NADI by Dani will continue to provide artwork in the form of clothing.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Consistency is most important to my success. When I am constantly interacting with my supporters on social media that helps build a relationship. I constantly put myself in the shoes of supporters and understand what they would like to see and how they would like to interact. As a college student, it is very easy to get distracted and shift my attention fully to school but I do not. I have properly managed my time and taught myself how to balance school, social media and running a business. As long as I stay organized and consistent, I believe my brand will be a very successful well-respected brand worldwide.
