Daily Inspiration: Meet Pamela Delgado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Delgado.

Hi Pamela, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From a young age, we have always loved swimwear and, more specifically, bikinis. Being Colombian, you’re constantly taking trips to the beach. Our Mom would buy us the cutest matching bikinis, so it became a part of who we were. As we got older, we always purchased our bikinis in Colombia because we liked the fit better and more of the cheeky bottoms that the US seemed to lack at the moment. That’s what inspired us to create our own swimwear line. The idea actually came four years ago, but we were hesitant in taking the risk and starting our own business. 2020 being a year full of uncertainties, we decided to take the leap of faith and move forward with a dream we’ve had from a young age. We decided to launch in the midst of a pandemic, which allowed us to focus our energy on something positive, bringing hope for brighter days. With one of us working in the fashion industry and both living in Los Angeles, we were exposed to the newest and hottest trends, and we grew a huge passion for all things fashion. We consider our style minimalist yet chic. Focusing on creating staple pieces that we believe all girls need in their closets. While still making it affordable.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. We’ve encountered bumps along the way. We wanted to give up times because we felt no one understood the vision we had in mind. We went through several manufacturers and sampled multiple fabrics, and none seemed to meet our standards. When putting your name behind a product, we wanted to be sure that what we released reflected us and would be a quality product we would buy for ourselves. Going back and forth with manufacturers can be discouraging, which is another reason why we stalled and took so long to move forward.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What sets Mèla Swim apart from other brands is that we strive for comfort—making all of our pieces adjustable to fit all body types. Being able to feel confident while wearing a bikini has always been a top priority for us, which is why we offer several different styles to choose from. Our pieces range from cheeky to high waist bottoms and now with a one-piece launching soon.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
We have always been really close siblings and although we are five years apart, people think we are the same age all the time. Tiffany, who is the youngest, decided to pursue acting at a young age. We all knew she loved being in front of a camera at a young age, always hosting shows for the family and being the center of attention and social butterfly. I (Pamela) am a little more reserved and it takes me a bit longer to open up to people, which is why we make such a good team!
