Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Lewis
Erika, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my natural hair journey by doing the big chop in 2008. It was a difficult first step but eventually I adjusted to it. Since nobody around me was natural, I had to do my own research on natural hair at such a young age. I would watch YouTube hair tutorials every night to see what new hairstyle I could do the next morning. As I watched YouTube videos, I started doing DIY protein treatments, hair oils and leave-in conditioners. Whether I go to school, the store, or church, I always get asked “What do you to hair? What hair products do you use?” So, I finally decided to start my own hair care line April 2020. If I can create my own concoction to help my hair growth and to keep my hair healthy, why not share it with the world?
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh no, it has not been a smooth road at all. I learn new things everyday regarding my business. When it comes to researching, you have to be patient because researching never stops and that’s something that I had to learn. I just started my hair care line a few months ago and I am still learning a lot with my black owned small business.

I am the Founder/Owner of Chosen Curls. Chosen Curls is a luxurious hair care line, handmade for all hair types and textures. Products are infused with organic certified ingredients. I am most proud of taking this leap of faith to do one of the things I was called to do. Hair care is just as important as skin care and my job is to “breathe life” to my customer’s hair by giving them the products that will hydrate their hair and by giving them hair tips.
