Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Quinn.
Hi Kayla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my makeup journey in high school doing makeup for my friends and family. I was always drawn to makeup because of how it made me feel and how others felt when they had it on. I was hired to do my first fashion show at 18 and never looked back.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
An obstacle I had to overcome was self-doubt. I doubted my abilities because there was no one who looked like me doing what I aspired to do around me. I thought I wouldn’t be good enough or that my dreams to be a professional makeup artist were unattainable.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What I’m most known for is my editorial and beauty work. I love working on projects where there is a story to be told. I also love collaborating with local creatives around my town.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Instagram gives me a lot of inspiration for makeup looks as well as Pinterest. I also listen to the Makeup Show Podcast With Danessa Myricks and James Vincent. It’s very helpful in shedding light on the makeup artist industry.
