Meet Janel Caminos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janel Caminos

Hi Janel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Janel. I’m an author, dancer, travel blogger and curly hair enthusiast. My mission in life is to inspire others to travel the world, dance and embrace their natural curls. Fun Fact: I was the former Miss Puerto Rico of the 2016 Houston Caribbean Queen Pageant.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This quarantine has challenged me to pursue my dreams that I put on hold for so long. 2020 was a blessing in disguise for my personal goals to come to life. I miss traveling and exploring the world. Even though I cancelled 10 trips in 2020, I took advantage of the countries that were open for travel. I never been to Mexico before COVID-19! Crazy! I was able to visit Cancun, Playa de Carmen, Tulum and Cabo. I blogged about my trips on Rizos Travel. Visit my website for more details on my trip. I miss dancing more than ever. Pre-COVID-19, I travelled often to different dance festivals in different cities. I’m a professionally trained dancer in Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, Samba and Dancehall. I love all styles of dance. Follow me on my dance journey at @janel.danza.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I launched my travel business, Rizos Travel, in May 2020. On Rizos Travel, I offer travel discounts, resources, curly hair product recommendations which can be purchased on my Amazon store. I also have cute travel merchandise for my curl friends to rock on their trips, or locally. Subscribe to my newsletter for updates. I also published my first book, Curly Gyal Affirmations, in October 2020. I wrote myself curly hair affirmations over the years to help me love and accept my God-given curls. My hair used to be my biggest insecurity; I spoke affirmations over my hair until I started to believe them. Many women with curly hair share the same insecurity so I decided to share my affirmations to help others embrace their curls. My book is available on Amazon. Stay tuned for curly hair events coming soon!
