Inspiring Conversations with Annique Hogan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annique Hogan.

Hi Annique, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was raised by my grandparents, my four sisters and I. Even though I did not grow up with my biological parents in the same household, there was never a shortage of love at any point in my life. I grew up seeing my grandparents work, and not working was never an option for me. I learned at an early age, that you work for the things that you want! I started my first Customer Service and Sales job at JC Penney, at the age of 16. I worked at JC Penney in high school and was able to transfer to the location in Huntsville, TX when I graduated and went to college. I am a graduate of Sam Houston State University. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree, in Sociology.

College was one of the best experiences of my life. I have connected with lifelong friends, I have priceless memories and it is where I discovered my passion for people, through Property Management and Real Estate. I began working as a Leasing Professional, simply to take advantage of the free rent! Who knew that this was only the beginning for my Real Estate journey!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My timing never seems to align with God’s timing. There have been so many times where I felt like I was ready for the next step, the next challenge, or the next chapter. I felt like I had been doing everything right, but there was no movement. That was a tough season for me. I spent a lot of time soul searching, and trying to figure out what was next, and how I could accomplish what was next. I further delayed myself from coming out of this. I had gotten to a point where if I could not see what was at the end of a road, I wouldn’t even take the first step. “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase”. -Martin Luther King Jr.

I allowed things like, “You have time, you don’t have to have it all figured out today”, consume my thoughts and eventually reflect in my actions, or lack thereof. Growth has taught me that while you do not have to have it all figured out today, you do need to ACT every day. Every day, no matter how small, you need to do something that will get you closer to accomplishing your dreams. Be it a trip to the library to read a book or article, or listening to a podcast about something you’re passionate about. “Procrastination is the ignorant assumption that you still have time”. -James Rembert

Be strategic about everything! Your career path, what college you choose to attend, what you major in, and ESPECIALLY the people you align yourself with. This is a lesson that I wish I would have learned earlier in life.

Mistakes will happen, setbacks will happen, and failure is a part of the process. You may fall nine times, but you will get up ten. There are lessons that failure and disappointment will teach you, that success never could. But when you fall, where do you land? What does your cushion look like? Who are your people? I believe that relationships are the building blocks for success. Who you align yourself with should reflect what you desire from life. What’s YOUR idea of success? Does anyone in your circle meet those standards? They should.

To be honest, my timing STILL does not align with God’s timing. I am working on it. However, I can honestly say that I am grateful that many things did not happen when I THOUGHT they should have happened. When they did, it was ten times greater than what I imagined and prayed for. Some of the things that I thought I needed, I quickly learned I did not need at all. This is what keeps me grounded and my faith strong. It is all a part of the process.

As you know, we’re big fans of Annique The Realtor. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a Licensed Texas Realtor with Houston’s Premier Real Estate Brokerage, The Braden Real Estate Group. I am also a Nationally Certified Property Manager with Greystar, the Nation’s Largest Private Real Estate Development and Management Firm. In 2020, I was the recipient of the Property Manager of the Year Award, for Greystar Houston.

I am what you would call a Dual Agent, as I technically work with two separate entities. Both ultimately align with my passion People and Real Estate. Every single day, I get to do what I love. I am responsible for leading a team of individuals; and together we work towards exceeding all corporate initiatives. I analyze submarket rates and adjust effective rents. I prepare monthly variance, quarterly budget reports and forecast reports. In addition, I guide property improvement projects, partnering with contractors, building owners, and stakeholders to secure on-time deliverables. Of the many things that my dual career allows me to do, the most rewarding is being able to help people find their homes.

My goal is to learn as much as possible about Real Estate, so that I can share that knowledge with everyone that I encounter. The more you know, the more capable you are making the wisest decisions when it comes to your home ownership goals. My hope is that the knowledge my clients gain from working with me, they would pass that on. The mission of the Braden Real Estate Group is Buy, Sell, and Build a Legacy. My contribution to my client’s legacy, is their contribution to mine.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is being able to identify and recognize the growth in your setbacks. Success is being able to wake up every day to do what you love and generate income from it. Success is being able to share your light with people, and it is genuinely received, appreciated, and reciprocated. Success is discovering your passion and working every day to fulfill your dreams.
