Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Tucker.
Hi Mark, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Mark Tucker and I have over 20 years of marketing experience across multiple industries and corporate environments. I have a BA in Communication from Trinity University (1999), an MA in Critical Studies from USC Cinema (2001), and an MBA from Louisiana State University Shreveport (2020). My career started at The Walt Disney Studios working on National Promotions for feature films. I was blessed to work on marketing for Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Pirates of the Caribbean (I and II), Chicken Little, and many more. I then moved to DreamWorks Animation where I co-managed the McDonald’s and Kellogg’s corporate alliances on films like Shrek the Third and Kung Fu Panda. After moving back home to Houston in 2007, I worked briefly at The Alley Theatre in Corporate Development before moving to Six Foot, a Digital Engagement Agency, where I worked for five years as a Project Manager, Operations Manager, and National Account Sales. From there, I moved to ITW Global Brands, home of auto aftermarket brands like Rain-X, Fix-a-Flat, Gumout, Black Magic, Permatex, and Slime, where I worked in marketing communications, national account sales, and brand management. I also served as Children’s Ministry Director at my church in Katy, TX, for nearly three years during my work years at ITW, After a ten month contract at ExxonMobil was cut short due to the pandemic, I landed at Wet Sounds in November 2020 as Director of Marketing.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have been blessed beyond belief with an amazing family, loving friends, and a dedicated network. When my career has hit road bumps along the way, my crew has lifted me up and supported me until the next great work opportunity arose. Obstacles are a part of every job, from being underpaid or underappreciated, to fighting for your voice to be heard. I have worked at large Fortune 50 companies, and independently owned agencies and companies, and the truth is you never know what you’re going to face until you get into the heart of the job.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Wet Sounds?
Even though I just started at Wet Sounds a few months ago, it’s really a dream job I have worked toward my entire career. I am a proud Houstonian, and I admire the owners of Wet Sounds for starting their dream company in 2005 right here in Houston. Their vision for creating a high performance, high quality consumer electronics company, and staying Houston and Texas proud, is admirable. Our roots are in high performance marine audio, from speakers, amplifiers, and subwoofers, and have extended to soundbars even coolers primed for the powersports and golf car markets. Our vision for growth continues in 2021 with the launch of the Venue Series, a commercial-grade, residential targeted audio line for live performance quality sound right in your own backyard. Wet Sounds is synonymous with high quality, high performance output, that’s always loud and clear. I am excited to help Wet Sounds continue their rapid growth by building a marketing foundation to launch many further adventures!
How do you define success?
Success is simply doing your best, day in and day out, learning from mistakes, growing personally and professionally in equal stride, and coming home to your family each day for dinner.
