Hi Erica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My Journey started in 2020. My previous career was a Hotel General Manager in the hospitality industry for 22 years. 2020 was an eye opener for me as my industry was hit very hard with the pandemic known as COVID-19. In addition, as an African American we were also being targeted by police brutality. In the wake of everything that was going on I had to think fast about what life I want to give my two daughters Erian and Kayla. How was i going to set them up in the future and create a foundation for them to be successful.
So, I turned my sights on entrepreneurship. I’ve always loved the beauty industry, being from New Orleans and following the successful entrepreneurs from my city I found it was natural to jump into that industry. I have no formal training in hair and make-up but I surrounded myself around people who are masters of the craft. We launched KEE (Kayla,Erian,Erica) Essential LLC in June 2020 and it has been a roller coaster ever since. I have secured partnerships with celebrity stylist, influencers, and make-up artist. We launched on Amazon in July, and became international wholesale distributor in October with shipping our products to Africa, Germany, Paris, and Uganda. Spring 2021 we are launching our KEE foundation and setting powder in 15 different shades. We are constantly evolving and staying true to our commitment and company core value which is to make your beauty personal.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It haven’t been a smooth road for us. I am constantly educating myself on the beauty business, investing in my cosmetic formula, and trying not to allow larger and more popular brands discourage me. I’ve been scammed a few times, and creating the balance between motherhood and business partners can be challenging. However I am optimistic the more I stick to our core values and lead with integrity I’m sure the brand will be successful and continue to grow.
We’ve been impressed with KEE Essential Beauty LLC., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
KEE Essential Beauty is an inclusive brand for every person no matter of color or gender. We are a one stop shop for all thing’s beauty. Whether you want premium hair bundles, our Siberian Mink lashes, or in need of a good shampoo & conditioner we have it all. We released a full cosmetic line which include eight high pigmented eyeshadow pallets, primer, eye liner, pomades, matte lip sticks, highlighters we have it all. I’m very proud of my brand, we started out with one product now we have over 60!!
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was a total nerd. I was the kid that was student of the month, week, and year and graduated with honors. I didn’t have a lot of friends but the ones i did have were still close to this day. Loyalty means everything me. I was very shy, didn’t say too much which I can see the same traits in my oldest daughter Erian. I learned successful people usually have a small circle and I’m totally fine with that.
