Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Rivera.
Hi Alejandro, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been drawn to photography since High School, Family and friends would always come up to me to take photos with their phones and I would enjoy every minute of it. Photography was always an escape zone from the stress going on at the time. My wife bought me my first camera back in 2017 as a Christmas present just because she would see how much I enjoyed taking photos of other people. I never thought about turning this passion into a business because, to me, this is just a hobby. I took my first client December of 2019, I didn’t know what to charge, how to pose a person, or even how to edit a photo. All I knew was how to press the shutter button and that was it, that night I went home and looked on YouTube how to edit photos and watched videos all night. After I delivered those photos to my client, I still remember her telling me how amazing and how much she loves them and that feeling of happiness was boost I needed to kick start Rivera’s Photography.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not! it has not been as easy as I though, at the beginning, I would book clients without any deposit I would just take their word. I would trust anyone with my time and energy because I wanted the experience and I was so eager to learn, Big mistake! People don’t really care that they’re wasting your time because it doesn’t affect them, sometimes I’ll wait for client for hours and sometimes they just wouldn’t show up for their session even after confirming with them day before. I learned to always and I mean always! ask for a deposit at the time of booking. No Deposit means No Booking. I had to create rules and policies to protect myself and my business while still being friendly and respectful to all my clients.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in several areas of photography: Family – Maternity – Cakesmash (First birthday) – Engagement – Couples – Graduation I believe a photo session should not leave you broke, this is why my prices are very affordable in comparison to others, I love capturing memories for my clients, these are memories that they will cherish forever and I’m blessed to be a part of it. My clients are the reason why I do what I do, I’ve had clients called me crying and happy because they love how their photos turned out and that is more than I could ever ask for.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I been so blessed to have a great support system from my wife and two kids. They always come with me to every session and they’re always willing to help as much as they can. My wife always helps me with posing or fixing the smallest details I may not see (a hair on a client’s face or even a leaf on the floor). I also met a group of photographer that have taught me so much and showed me many ways that I could improve.
