Today we’d like to introduce you to Dellanira Rangel.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Dellanira. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Science and graduated as Doctor of Chiropractic from Texas Chiropractic College in 2005. Freshly out of Chiropractic College I decided to open up my first clinic and rented a room from an established massage therapist. I named it Omega Chiropractic Clinic. I decided a few months down the road that I wanted to have my own space and moved my clinic to Katy. I stayed in business for a year and then decided to shut down and go home to be with my 21-month-old, whom I had birthed 6 months prior to finishing Chiropractic college.
I then became a stay at home mom for 4 years and within that time saw patients here and there at times going out to their homes to adjust them. In 2010 my best friend and colleague Dr. Boyoung Chung, whom I graduated Chiropractic college with asked me if I was ready to go back to work and fulfill my purpose in life. I answered yes! She proceeded to tell me that she had plans on opening a satellite clinic here in Houston and wanted me to help her build it up.
I was unsure of the outcome but knew that it was time for me to start back up and began a new journey in life. MBS Wellness Chiropractic then became my new focus and my goal was to help people in my community obtain a new way of life through Chiropractic care and a nutritional protocol thru Nutrition Response Testing, along with Acupuncture. In 2012 our lease was up and because the outcome of the clinic was not as expected we decided, that I would own the clinic outright, keep the name and move locations. From there I leased at the new location for 3 years and pretty much became overwhelmed with the responsibilities of the business and was getting frustrated with the lack of growth and response from my community.
I tried various things but nothing really seemed to work. It was until the end of August 2015 that another friend and colleague from Chiropractic College Dr. Lauren Baker who had seen my struggles introduced me into a practice management group called Epic Practice. I went to their yearly Impact event and was reinvigorated with my passion for Chiropractic and my true purpose in life! It wasn’t until then that I realized I wasn’t living life to my true potential and decided to take a 360 degree turn into a new beginning. The name for my new clinic was born from that event and I was so ecstatic I couldn’t wait to get back home to recreate myself and my practice. I renamed the practice Family Mission Chiropractic and promptly went to work to change everything I had been doing and start again from scratch.
Failing, I only feared once and that was when I closed down my first clinic. Since that time I have failed time and time again but that has never stopped me! I believe that because I know what my purpose in life is it helps me to withstand whatever challenges come my way. My passion was born once again and at that point I knew I wanted to be an advocate for children who are struggling thru life from the beginning of their creation, meaning from struggling to get pregnant to birth, possible even birth trauma to whatever other challenges a child faces in the first years and on into their teenage and adult years.
We’ve had many patients who struggled to get pregnant and after obtaining adequate chiropractic care and thru the help of lifestyle changes thru nutrition were able to finally procreate. That is the most wonderful experience that I could ever feel from my job as a Chiropractor. I love helping our patients reach their goals with their health but most importantly I love to see the babies and infants live and thrive with Chiropractic care.
Has it been a smooth road?
Owning my own business has never been a smooth ride! I thought that being an owner of my own clinic would be easy, but that was far from the true reality. There is so much involved with being an entrepreneur, yet I don’t regret embarking on this journey. There is a lot of responsibility that goes into the continuous growth of a business, add to that the fact that you have a growing family that needs you at home, and plus the fact that you are responsible for handling people’s lives through your care.
It is extremely hard as a women entrepreneur to juggle all of these responsibilities all at once, but it is doable as long as you have the right team to help you thru the process you will be able to flourish to better serve your community. Every time that I have the opportunity to serve a patient thru Chiropractic I think of how blessed and grateful I am to be given the opportunity to help them by being the tool that will change their lives thru the impact created within their nervous systems. Since rebranding and starting up Family Mission Chiropractic, I have been faced with many challenges and yet many blessings as well!
Every day I focus on being better, training harder and being louder in my community. At the start of 2017 with the help of my Business Development Specialist Delvis Rodriguez, we were able to start making a greater impact by hosting a series of monthly events at my practice to help educate the community, although this was a challenge and required much work and dedication. Everything in business is a trial and error and even though this was a fun adventure I chose to make changes for the following year so that we can raise awareness within in our community. At the same time provide and take care of my team so that overwhelm does not take the best of us.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in pediatric, prenatal and family care. We are among the few Chiropractic clinics in Houston, TX that use state of the art technology utilized to assess the nervous system. It is a set of three specialized scans that allow us to visualize where stress is building up within the nervous system, how deep it is affecting your overall health and what type of care plan will be needed to correct the underlying cause of the health concerns, for the long-term accomplishment of health goals.
With these specialized scans, we are able to demonstrate the progression of care and because we care so much about providing patients with true, accurate and measurable results we choose to implement these in their progress exams for monitoring improvements.
This technology is safe to utilize in infants, pregnancy and at any age. In my practice I utilize a variety of techniques, because every single person I have the opportunity to adjust is different, and at times I have to use a very gentle approach, other times I have to use mechanical type adjusting tools and yet at other times hands-on chiropractic type adjustments.
For us, it is important that our clinic feels like home, and that our patients have an awesome experience from the start of care and beyond. My CA, Cintya makes sure that our patients feel welcomed, cared for, loved and overall assured that they are in the right place!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I absolutely would recommend new Chiropractors to consider the greater Houston area as an area to establish their own business. The need for Chiropractic care is on a rise and the more pediatric, prenatal and family Chiropractors in this area, the more choices Houstonians will have access to their neighborhoods.
