Conversations with Young Migo Dro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Young Migo Dro.

Hi Young Migo Dro, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all started in my senior year of high school. As graduation got closer, I would need to find what I wanted to do after high school. Growing up, attending college was always enforced in my house and thought that was the only way to be successful. I sort had an idea what field I wanted to go in. Growing up I would always like to help people in any way and I was also good with numbers. So, my thought would be to go to the medical field or pursue a business major. That senior year, I took an advanced economic class to get a head start in my education and that’s where I met a classmate. Who had started music production. Fascinated on how you could literally make a whole song on just a laptop, in my mind I thought it took a whole lot of money and equipment to make music, All you really needed was a laptop, headphones and microphone. That summer after high school, I did everything possible to save up to buy a laptop for “College “but in the back of my mind this was towards my music career.

That year, I had given college a try. During that time I would be mostly making beats and learning the fundamentals of music production. Also took a couple of piano and business courses. After a year in college, it came to me that that college wasn’t for me. After dropping out of college, I was looking for ways to improve my musical skills. I came across a program called “The Recording Connection “. It was a six month program that would help me learn the fundamentals of audio engineering..

During the time, I was blessed to be doing an internship at the best studio in Houston,’ Studio 713. During my time as an internship, I was able to work and learn from the best engineers and music producers. Ever since then, I’ve been working in and out of the studio.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
One of my biggest struggles along the way has been with myself. There were a couple times where I had to put my music on pause due to personal reasons. Had to learn a couple hard lessons not only in music but also in life. I had to learn how to manage money and most importantly time. In any decision you make in life there’s always going to be an opportunity cost.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As I always like to say “Making music is my passion, making money is my talent.” Aside from being a recording artist, I would like to consider myself a businessman. For example, I found ways to make money in the music industry by investing in myself to learn how to be an audio engineer. Not only do I know how to properly record, I also know how to produce tracks, in other words making beats. By acquiring knowledge from these different areas, that would give me a chance to push music boundaries to find new and different sounds that no one has heard before.

What do you think about luck?
Personally I don’t believe in luck. I believe hard work and dedication are key to be successful in whatever you do in life, You just got to be in the right place at the right time.
