Today we’d like to introduce you to Cierra Adams.
Cierra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
This is a little background of myself, I recently posted on my business social media. Feel free to add to it if you like. I am the face behind KidbraidzbyCee! A native of Tampa, FL birth name Cierra (my mom named me after one of her favorite perfumes “Ciara,” but changed the spelling). Now known as Cee, a nickname I inherited during my years playing basketball in High School, given to me by my teammates. I started braiding hair at about the age of 11. I have two younger sisters whom were my human models, so that’s where I received my practice. I even started braiding some of my friends/teammates hair as well as my own. I never really enjoyed braiding hair when I was younger or even realized how really good I was.
I guess at that age, I just would have rather have been outside shooting hoops or just having fun with my friends. However, braiding hair was a way for me to earn extra money, as my mom was a single mom. Not really knowing the value of a dollar back then, it was mostly just spent on unnecessary “THINGS”! So for me, this business is not just for “Personal Profiting” but also to give back! I’ve vowed to give 10% of my earnings to St. Jude Hospital. I have chosen this foundation because of my love for children and the loss of both my grandmother and grandfather to cancer. Also, with coming from a single-parent home and knowing the struggles of everyday living. I’m also diligently doing some research to go into low-income neighborhoods, where there are families I can assist with my gift/talent who can’t afford to take their child to a salon. A successful business owner wants to see “Great Profit”! However, my Mission Statement is: God has blessed me with this talent, so I am putting him first… While trusting him with all my heart and not rely on my own understandings. (Proverbs 3:5) I’m a perfectionist at heart, so on each client, I take my time and focus on perfecting each braid at a time. Because I know… I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me(Philippians 4:13). My ultimate goal is to have “Two” Satisfied Customers… Parent and Child!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I can honestly say being an entrepreneur is very challenging, exhausted at times. Esp since I still have a day job. (I’m an assistant for a dental Anesthesiologist) I can say I’m blessed with a really good doctor who also has his own business so he understands the importance of a well-balanced work life and personal life so that helps tremendously. Overall is still all very rewarding!!!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Houston base kid braiding stylist. I specialize in scalp braids and designs but offer a variety of styles. I’m most proud of my drive and willingness to also give back to the community. I’m very flexible and once my client sits in my chair, it’s all about them ONLY. I’m currently researching on program available to help service less fortunate mothers who can’t afford to take their kids to salons for cute unique styles.
Any big plans?
My future plans is to maybe one day own my own braid studio.
