Rising Stars: Meet Dominique Bailey of Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Bailey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a child I spent a lot of my time at my grandmother’s salon. I would sit and watch her make her clients feel so beautiful. I would try different styles on friends and family and at a young age I knew that the being a hairstylist was my gift. In high school, I was given the opportunity to enter a cosmetology program and became licensed. I then entered the workforce in the salon industry gaining experience as a stylist manager giving me opportunity to see the behind the scenes of managing a standalone salon.

A year ago, I gave birth to my second child and the corporate salon hours were not as flexible for a mother of two. During the week of my delivery the whole world shut down due to Covid-19. I had to make a decision for the greater good of my family and decided that it would be best I open my own salon. And when the city reopened I went to work and started working on my business plan to make my dream become reality. I decided to start my own business. It has been a smooth road for me. I can say my previous experience definitely prepared me for my journey. I learned how to create my own marketing content to bring myself new clientele. Once I got the marketing down it brought me great client retention.

Growing up, I was always ahead of my time I always surrounded myself with older individuals. I believe in staying driven and focusing on my goals. For years I’ve written down my vision for my life over and over. I wanted a salon super feminine with pink colors. I knew every detail before I actually was able to get started. The Glamour Room that once a vision continues to become a reality for me. I perform high end services at affordable prices. I specialize in silk presses, micro links, ktips, and itip hair extensions. I created The Glamour Room to give every woman the opportunity to feel glamorous.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yes, I can say finally opening my own salon has been a great experience. I believe after years of planning I was well prepared for this responsibility.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in silk presses for natural hair and hair extensions. I am proud of myself the majority of clients that come to me have far from healthy hair. I am set apart from others because I am honest with my clients. I can about their hair and I give them ways to customize and enhance their beauty.
