Meet Leanne Rosser

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leanne Rosser.

Leanne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started a running group in The Woodlands to cater to all types of runners. I was a member at another local running club for several years. After I had reached my goal of qualifying and running the Boston Marathon, I decided I wanted to become a running coach and give back the information and knowledge I had learned over the years.

That same year I was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma cancer. After that all cleared up, I had overwhelming feelings to create a running group that welcomed all types of runners. A club where the newer runners are not intimidated by the fast runners. I wanted to know that the person training for their first 5k is just as important to the member who runs a sub three full marathon. We welcome all ages, sizes, genders, and ethnicity.

Our group has survived and flourished through the pandemic, knowing that running is a vital key to keep healthy. Our group grew from 30 members to slightly over 200 members since June 2019. We have added tri coaches and more running coaches. We just added North side Youth Program as well. Our next project is to start a summer cross country running camp for junior high kids. I am very passionate about our group, and do everything in my power to keep a positive atmosphere for the group.

Has it been a smooth road?
It was not a smooth road when I left the prior running club I was with! I did know I would lose people, who I thought were my friends, I expected that. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I also knew that if I didn’t move forward with my dream that I would have regretted it later in life.

I felt called to start this group, so after I could not ignore that calling any longer, I trusted that and put all things in place to move forward. It was a very scary and unsure time. I am so glad I knew my worth and did not listen to those negative comments from people who said I couldn’t do it, and said I wouldn’t succeed.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the North side Running & Tri story. Tell us more about the business.
If you can look on my FB page or IG page, you can see all the happy faces, and team support and just how much fun we have. We are a true running family. We give each other so much support and encouragement. We travel to races together, we celebrate each other’s victories, and no one is left out on the race course to finish solo.

We specialize in making everyone feel welcomed and included. This is what sets up apart from others. We are a drama free club. If a member doesn’t have the same direction, or isn’t right for the club, they are politely asked to go find another club to run with.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We are constantly figuring out how to evolve during the pandemic. People have joined even during the pandemic, of course most of our events have been cancelled, but we have continued to grow! I see our group growing stronger over the next upcoming years!

I am looking forward to growing the youth program with the help of other coaches. We have a summer cross country program planned for this summer. I am also considering starting a kid’s only race series to put on the North side of town. So, the sky is the limit!!
