Hi Karen, so great to have you join us again. For folks who might have missed our earlier conversations, can you please take a minute to briefly introduce yourself?
My name is Karen Rice, born and raised in Houston, TX. I was the seventh child born into a very large family. With so many around, I rarely ever had time to myself. When I did, I would take that little time in a hide-away space and dream. I grew up in church, as my father was a Baptist minister. While in high school, my life was all planned out, by becoming a model/actress, and I worked at it, while working other jobs to raise my child alone after a broken marriage. Later in life I had a head-on-collision with not only breast cancer., but colon cancer as well. I recently had another scare of possibly having cancer yet again. Through all of this and all that I’ve had to endure, it all became an awakening for me, where I received all the strength and encouragement to write down my thoughts to share with others. What doesn’t make you week, definitely makes you stronger.

What are your goals for your books?
My goals for my inspirational books, is to help share what can happen, good or bad, you take those moments and hold on to them. Try your best not allow the pain and struggles you are dealing with, dealt with, define you. You are so much more than. The words and phrases that are within my books, I’m asking you to fight, fight with all your might. Once cancer hits you, it thinks it has a hold on you, cancer thinks it controls you, and if or when you give up, it’s fighting even harder to take your dignity, as well as your joy. You feel black-balled. I’m fighting within my writing, to help keep up the spirit and inspiration during and after cancer.

What have you learned about having and going through Cancer twice, almost three times?.
I’ve learned first, to not take life for granted. Not to blink twice on life. I’ve learned that the life I had, is about to change into the life I have now, going forward. I’ve learned not to allow the cancer to break me down, cripple me, nor take my life away. I learn to enjoy life, even in the moment. I knew I was about to go through a new journey, chapter in my life, but I was holding on by faith. There mystery ahead, but I’m going along the way, to find out what’s beyond this moment. I still have today to fight, and hopefully tomorrow.

What advice can you give a person who’s going through it, or may go through it. Obviously, no one should construe that as medical advice and should consult a medical professional. However, for education purposes we’d appreciate if you could share some of your thoughts and wisdom.
My first advice, and I know it’s hard, but that is to believe, don’t give up, and truly fight. Listen closer to your MD, and take his advice for the best treatment possible for you. Make sure you get a laugh or two in here and there. Laughter truly makes you feel better, especially during such moments. Not only does it make you feel better, it eases your pain at times. Try to keep active, as much as your body will allow you. Look for things that makes you happy. Allow times for sadness, you deserve it. You didn’t ask for this disaster to interrupt your life, so you have a right to have your own pity party every now and then. Every once in a while, ask yourself, “how are you doing? Stay positive around others, even though they may give you “that look”, it’s not their fault, and it’s not yours either. Express yourself, if the moment arises. You’re going to have to be a little patient now in life, more than ever before. Pray!

Thank you so much again for sharing all of this with us. Before we go, can you share with our readers how they can connect with you, learn more or show support?
