Today we’d like to introduce you to James Tour.
James, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a chemistry professor at Rice University. I run a research group at Rice and I teach undergraduate and graduate lectures, do research with a group of about 30 students and postdocs, and I started 14 companies from my research.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Smooth. My career was very blessed. So many of the things that my students have discovered have been big discoveries in the field.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I guess most proud about the impact I have had upon hundreds of young lives over my 33-year professorial career. 22 years at Rice. Pre-pandemic, we used to host lunches weekly in our home, attended by 50-70 every week. During pandemic, we have curbside pick-up of Sunday lunches. Though a scientist, I share my faith in Jesus and his resurrection from the dead and impact many lives. I am pretty well known for many things. Great family. Four wonderful children. Married 39 years to the same woman whom I love and enjoy so much.
