Meet Yancey Tarver

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Yancey Tarver. Yancey was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Shelly Lee.

Hi Yancey, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
When I was younger I liked writing poetry. As I got older I began to write short stories, and one day I was siting on the sofa in 2018 and the idea of writing a book came to me, “A Man After Gods Own Heart” first thing I thought was “This is going to be a book about King David” but it became more than that, Adam, Abraham, Samson and a few more began to paint a picture of men from all walks of life in the Bible who through circumstances, some in their control and some not who still managed to obey God inspite of what they were going thorough.

Let’s talk about your work and career – what else should we know?
In 1990 I was living in Beaumont Texas. One night I was watching a commercial for a Truck Driving School in the area, and I remember thinking “That looks like fun!” I went to school, graduated and here it is 2021 and I am still driving trucks to this day. I have been all over the USA, met loads of people and every day I get up excited to go to work because honestly I love what I do for a living.

As you know, we’re big fans of Shelly Lee and Pen.Paper.Publish. we know you’ve worked with them quite a bit as well. We’d love to hear about your experience working with Shelly Lee.
Shelly is truly a gifted woman. When I told her I was writing A Man After Gods Own Heart in 2018 she laughed at me, then she encouraged me to follow my dream. I remember her saying ” If you want to e a writer, then write.” challenge accepted! It took me a year to write my first book, when I finally sent it to Shelly, she read it and I remember in one of our phone conversations her saying “You write like you talk, this is going to take some work (LOL)!” funny thing was I was not offended when she said this to me, I come from a small country town in Texas called Crockett and we say it the best way we know how, and hope you get the point. Shelly being from Texas her self, and both of us being from small country towns, was the perfect fit whne I needed an editor. Shelly understood what I was saying and is educated enough to take my “Country Gramer” and put it in a way were the rest of the world at large can understand it. when the book was finally released I read it and every inspired thought was a clear as a bell’s tone. Shelly for every book I write from no one is my go to, hands down. She shoots straight, gets the job done and has no issue doing either with a smile.
