Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Sed.
Sarah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got a call from a friend and business partner about this exciting new activity he did while out of town at a conference. Competitive Axe Throwing was the new adrenaline rush he had been looking for since he discovered escape rooms. I booked a flight as soon as I could get in for the nearest location (Philadelphia at the time) and was immediately hooked. I decided then and there that we needed Axe Throwing in Houston and I got to work.
Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a business is never easy, especially when you’re bringing a new concept into town. We had to find the right space, with enough ceiling height, AND air conditioning, in a part of town that people could easily get to. We also had to find someone who would ensure us to let people chuck axes at a target. Understandably, few places were willing to take on that liability but we found someplace and it’s working out well for us.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Houston Axe Throwing story. Tell us more about the business.
Houston Axe Throwing was the first indoor urban axe throwing location in Texas, and is the first location in Houston. We help people release their inner Viking through axe throwing instruction, guidance, practice and friendly competition. Our Axeperts guide each participant through their entire experience from safety training, lessons, axe themed games and tournaments!
Once you’ve stuck that whirling piece of wood and metal into a bulls eye, we guarantee you’ll be hooked!
It’s easier than bowling, has the excitement of a football game, and you can kick back with a beer while you’re there.
For those who crave a competitive atmosphere, we are members of the World Axe Throwing League (WATL) and have leagues. You can even qualify for international competition!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Over the next 5-10 years, the industry will be growing by leaps and bounds. It started in Canada over 10 years ago and has taken off. Now, it’s finally coming to the U.S.
Someday, it might replace bowling as the go-to fun activity for friends, family, coworkers and events!
