Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Hayden.
Taylor, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well, my journey officially began in 2017. I was 3-years out of college and spent that time working as a freelancer for companies while pursuing my then dream of being a travel blogger. During that time, I noticed how people were more so drawn to my travel photography rather than the actual content I wrote about, but I never considered becoming a professional photographer.
It wasn’t until 2017 when I became burnt out from blogging and longed for a new profession that was more stable. In January of that year, one of my old classmates who loved my travel photography asked if I could take pictures of her for her beauty blog and said she’ll pay me. I’ve never done a portrait shoot before and definitely didn’t know what to charge. But I agreed to give it a try and charge her $80. She ended up giving me $100, LOL. From there, it was like a dominion effect. I began attracting random inquiries from people wanting to book a shoot with me. I started taking it seriously and that’s when my company TMH creative, was born.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My entrepreneurial journey was definitely not a smooth road. When I graduated with my Bachelor’s, I had over $40,000 in student loan debt and no one would hire me. However, being rejected so many times by employers was the very thing that triggered me to become self-employed. It was one of the best decisions I’ve made.
Still had to overcome hurdles being an Entrepreneur and still facing challenges to this day. But I’ve learned to embrace those challenges because I know they’re ultimately for my greater good and there’s always an opportunity to learn during times of struggle.
