Today we’d like to introduce you to Eboni Ogunseinde.
Hi Eboni, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello, I’m Eboni. I am a licensed Texas attorney. I practice primarily in the Houston area, but I also handle cases in the Dallas area. My primary practice area is Family Law, which includes matters like divorce, custody, and child support to name a few. I am also the owner of The OG Law Firm, PLLC. When I was in law school, I didn’t really aspire to have my own law firm. I thought about it being an option in the future, but I wasn’t in a rush to make it happen. My plan was to graduate, work under an experienced attorney to gain practical experience, and then at some point, I’d venture out on my own.
However, long before that happened, my mom often encouraged me to hang my shingle. I’d find ways to avoid the topic and always told her I wasn’t ready. Eventually, in 2017 I gave it a try. I didn’t start with the mindset of “this is it,” it was honestly a means to an end at the time, and I needed an income. After being an entrepreneur for a short while, I started doing doc review and gave my focus to that rather than building a firm.
Fast forward, a year plus, a wedding, a move from one city to another, two law firm jobs, some contract work, and the feelings of being stagnant and unfulfilled, I finally decided to go out on my own; for real this time! I was committed to being an entrepreneur and building for myself and my family.
I officially launched The OG Law Firm Jan 1, 2019, right before I found out my husband and I were expecting our first child. I almost decided to give up the firm again but had amazing support to stick to the plan, and I did. Though the plan was a bit delayed, it wasn’t denied. Fast forward two years and one super cute kid later, becoming an entrepreneur (aka mompreneur) was one of the best decisions to date.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not easy! Lol. Starting a business from scratch has been one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done. There have been many struggles along the way, but with God and my amazing support team of family and friends, I’ve persevered. Moment of transparency, my biggest challenges came from how I viewed myself rather than external things. I’ve struggled with self-doubt and fear of failure more than anything. I’ve also dealt with something I eventually came to know as The Imposter Syndrome. Many times I questioned whether I was truly cut out for this, whether I was smart enough, resourceful enough, driven enough to really make it happen. There were many times I psyched myself out and was ready to give it all up and go back to working for someone else, but God! My husband is definitely one of my biggest supporters. He has always believed in me and my dreams, even when I didn’t believe in myself. He pushed me when I didn’t want to be pushed and challenged me when I just wanted to be left alone, but I’m so grateful.
Becoming a new mom while building a business was also a huge challenge. I was going through two major life transitions at the same time, and some days I had no idea how I was going to make it through the day. For the longest, my days had no structure and no real schedule. I was literally flying by the seat of my pants day in and day out, and oftentimes I was overwhelmed with everything that needed to be done in a single day. It was in those times that I’d recite Joshua 1:9 in my head: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged. For the Lord, your God is with you wherever you go.” It was those gentle reminders that helped me to literally do it afraid and not let my fears control me. As my mom always told me growing up, “Nothing is too hard, it is only to be understood.” So whenever I encounter challenges, I think back to that and I seek understanding not only from my law books but from my colleagues, mentors, and the Creator Himself. This journey has definitely not been easy and I still don’t have it all figured out, but the good far outweighs the bad, and despite the struggles, I’m still here!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The OG Law Firm, PLLC focuses primarily on family law. Practice areas include matters such as divorce (contested and uncontested), custody disputes, modifications of current orders, establishing paternity, child support and CPS cases.
I’ve always enjoyed helping others, and family law is definitely an area where I’m able to do that. I’ve always felt like God put me on this earth to be three things: a wife, a mother and an attorney, so to see this dream realized and purpose fulfilled only fuels my passion for what I do.
To me my calling is what sets me apart. It’s one thing to choose a profession, but it’s another thing for God to choose it for you because He needs you there.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’ve had people ask before about the name of the firm. So the name of the law firm was derived from my last name, which is Ogunseinde. I remember watching my husband write his name one day, and he capitalized the first two letters (OG). I asked him about it, wondering if there was a story behind it, but he said that he had just always written it that way. I thought about it a little longer, and after running it by him and a few family members, The OG Law Firm was born. It wasn’t meant to mean I’m an OG, but if the stiletto fits! lol.
I’m just thankful for this opportunity to share my story. Thank you so much.
