Today we’d like to introduce you to Channell Dawson.
Hi Channell, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am originally from Kenner, LA which is about 25 minutes from New Orleans, La. I am the last of five children. Life was tough growing up, but not as tough as many have it in the world today. I wear many hats wife, mother, daughter, sister and most of all disciple (minister)! The biggest hat of them all is ministry because I find myself serving/ministering everywhere I go home, work, church, the grocery store, the doctor’s office and even over the phone with people I have not had any face to face contact.
I am a licensed cosmetologist with over twenty years of experience. I am a licensed Christian Counselor and Certified Master Lifestyle and Master Mindset Coach. I have worked with the federal government for over fifteen years where I hold a position in leadership. My mission is to truly assist those people that feel like life has nothing more to offer them than where they currently are which is far from the truth. I believe in the metaphor that there is always a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow. My personal belief is that there is always hope after an encounter with Lifestyle Restoration Group (LRG), all we need is a client’s full participation.
In 2013, me and my husband formed Lifestyle Restoration Group (LRG). We didn’t know which direction this organization would take us in because it was a struggle finding people to be on the board that had the same heart for change in people as we did. We formed the organization not to be rich in material things but the become rich in the testimonies that the organization would birth. We are now in the process of reforming the organization which is focused toward helping people restore their life through lifestyle and mindset coaching, career path training, resume building and writing, interview training and performance and conferences and training sessions to name a few things offered by LRG.
I am a big advocate for turning around the outcome of school-aged children, single mothers, struggling marriages, and individuals struggling with DMS (Delayed Mindset Syndrome), DMS is a term that I use for individuals that have formed in their mind that they cannot do better or live better in their overall life.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve had many struggles. Especially with becoming a mother. I struggled with infertility. After a long time trying my husband and I finally conceived in 2006 through IVF. After my daughter was older, we tried again and again; failed cycle after failed cycle but then in 2018, we conceived and were blessed with a set of fraternal boy/girl twins.
So after financial stress, failed pregnancies and disappointment, I am still pressing my way one struggle at a time and seeing myself victorious despite what it looks like. I am more than a conqueror.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Lifestyle Restoration Group (LRG) is a nonprofit organization working towards changing the mindset of clients with a history of behaviors that could lead up to criminal activity. We are a new nonprofit with a plan like no other. We are convinced that if clients willingly participate in our program that they will graduate with a mindset free to conquer their next endeavor. We believe that if clients follow our program and adhere to our protocol change is inevitable.
Lifestyle Restoration Group is dedicated to encouraging, evolving, and enhancing clients that have not been able to overcome life’s challenges. Our entire Board of Directors are from low-income areas and understands the day-to-day struggles which is why we have formed this organization to help others reach the levels we all have reached. At Lifestyle Restoration Group the term CAN’T does not exist. Our mission is to ensure that our clients complete our programs with a CAN-DO attitude.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck to me is superstition. I believe in divine encounters and divine timing. Like everything is meant to happen when it happens. I am a believer in the words written in the bible although I am not a bible thumper.
When I lived like the world, I believed in luck but many times the things that I was involved in would have landed me in big trouble if I did not have a divine encounter of some kind to sway me away from people and placed that would have had a negative impact on my life.
I believe that divine timing is the reason I am where I am today. Not luck but divine time for a divine purpose. I am where I am for such a time as this to proclaim the Good News. My success can be credited to Someone greater than luck.
