Check Out Giovanna Pineda’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Giovanna Pineda.

Hi Giovanna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a freelance graphic designer based on the west side of Houston! I’ve been freelancing for almost two years, with a focus on working with small businesses and entrepreneurs. I graduated from a graphic design program in New York in Fall 2018, and after working at an agency in Manhattan, decided that I would like to come back home to Houston to help independent businesses put their best visual foot forward. I love making vibrant, minimalist visuals that capture my clients’ visions.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a business owner, staying afloat during COVID has definitely not been without its challenges – but I’m grateful for my long-term clients who have not only stuck with me but have also referred me out to other potential clients who could benefit from my services. Coming back to Houston after seven years of being gone has also come with its own set of lessons – it’s almost like getting reacquainted with the city I grew up in, all over again; it’s tough to make those connections and to build awareness about my services and the value of design, but I definitely think things are growing and improving on that front.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create brand identities and visual assets for my clients! I specialize in logo design, and I’m known for updating my clients’ previous logos and making them more modern, simple, and optimized. I’m most proud of the relationships that I build with my clients and my efforts to make the design process as collaborative and approachable as possible – which isn’t always the case whenever someone is looking to get design work done.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I just love how diverse our city is in terms of culture and lived experiences – we really are the best example of a melting pot, and there’s something for everyone here! I love that you can have good coffee, good tacos, and good banh mi all in one day. I do think that the size and surface area of our city can make it a bit challenging to connect with people sometimes – but that just makes the connections that you do make that much more valuable.
