Daily Inspiration: Meet Ashley Haney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Haney.

Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am an abstract artist currently living in Houston, Texas.

I love to paint. I have had a love of art since I was a small child. I picked up oil painting in high school and fell in love. While in college, I studied commercial art and graphic design. I’ve debated over the years about selling my art and after COVID started, I decided it was time that I share my art. I felt this was the time to truly invest in my art and start something small that can grow over the years.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, working full time does not always give me the opportunity to feel creative and complete the paintings that I start. I also struggle with keeping up with my social media posts. These are things that I know I will improve as I navigate this new journey.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My small business is something that I work at part-time. I truly enjoy painting with oils and building lots of texture and colors in my work. Mostly abstract at this point. I am proud that I finally decided to start painting again, I forgot how much joy it brought me until I picked up my brush and started painting again. I used to tell myself I would start painting again when I retired in the very far future. Now I’ve decided, why wait? I can take my time with this, I feel no pressure to grow my business right now or to make a bunch of money, I just want to have fun doing something I enjoy, and if that brings joy to others then great!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5-10 years, I am hoping to have established better processes and possibly had my own showing or two. I want to enjoy my art and make more time to do that.
