Today we’d like to introduce you to Aireana Idlebird.
Hi Aireana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well, to be completely honest, me becoming an entrepreneur didn’t start with my baking business. I tried out a lot of my different hobbies as a business to see what I was really passionate about and what I would actually be happy doing. I’ve always baked, but I never thought to take it serious until now! I realized that I wanted to do something to made me genuinely happy, and baking is it. It was important for me to not only be my own boss but to do something that I chose and wasn’t only doing it for an income!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all! Any small or big business owner knows the first stages of starting a business is extremely hard. For me, this is my main income source and my everyday job, so making sure I have orders and have a consistent clientele everyday is hard. Social media is the #1 influence nowadays, so in order to be seen and to grow your profile, you have to advertise and make sure that you’re reaching your intended audience, which has also been a struggle for me. In general, the road to becoming a “big” business is never smooth!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a Houston-based at-home baker! I make cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and more. If I had say what I specialized in, it would be cupcakes! I love making cupcakes because each individual one holds its ow personality. You can make each cupcake its own little person. Of course there’s thousands of bakeries out there, but I want to be that business that nobody can say anything bad about. I try to let the customer kind of create their own things and have it exactly how they want! I want to be the best black-owned business out there! I am most proud of our humbleness. I am very proud to tell people where I started and where I plan to go. We are all about making sure the people that supported us, and started with us, are okay. I’m very proud to come from the great city of Houston, Texas! Our bakery offers more than typical bakery with going beyond the food, once you become a customer, you are now a friend! In the future, we hope to have one of our cakes in every house in Texas!
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
If there is ever any schools, churches, or foundations that ever need anything, we would love to donate some cupcakes! Please do not hesitate to email or dm us!
