Hi Ciera, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! My name is Ciera Charles and I am from Houston Texas. Four years ago, I moved to Los Angeles to attend the number one school in America with notable alumni like Anne Hathaway, Paul Rudd and Sarah Paulson. The Academy of Dramatic Arts! While continuing my education in acting (auditions, taking classes, and signing with an agency), I also obtained my real estate license as well as started my own small business. Honeydeluxhair is my baby! We sell beauty products like hair bundles, wigs, lashes and accessories. I am so excited to see how big my business will be in the next few years to come. The goal has always been generational wealth! To be able to provide for generations to come, especially since we, African Americans, were delayed the opportunity.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As much as I want to say things were so hard, I must admit that it was pretty easy. People make it seem like it’s really hard to start a business, and although at times I did have my moments- overall I’d say it was pretty easy. I think people say things like that to discourage you so there will be less competition. Think about it, in the world we live in today, technology is at our fingertips and word of mouth is all you really need. There are behind the scene steps that can be discouraging, but overall if you are persistent, you can BEST believe you will make it out on the other side.
The struggle I have faced the most is promoting my business. After your immediate following and family members support you it’s kind of hard to reach a bigger audience. However, I will always put forth the effort. Honeydeluxhair is officially one year old, and with more time, more greatness will be achieved.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a jack of all trades! While I love acting and bringing other people’s visions to life, I am also obsessed with homes! I know I can’t be the only one who wonders what the inside of my neighbors home look like. I’m so nosey so I made it a profession haha. If you need a home or are looking for a place to rent/sell I would be happy to help!
I am most proud of me. That I was still able to grind hard even through the pandemic, isolation and mourning the death of my black brothers and sisters from police brutality. Change is needed.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I have learned is that strangers will support you more than friends, associates and family. I’d like to say that I don’t feel some type a way but I mean, I’m human, you can’t win them all. As sad as it to say, they don’t owe me anything, not even a simple share or retweet. So I take it on the chin and keep it moving… however, my immediate family… baby they gone step and support every time!
