Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Valdez.
Justin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I love coffee, but more importantly, I love the idea that life can be whatever we create. That’s the message behind Inspira. I adopted this philosophy after coming out of a ten-year addiction with prescription pain medication. Once I made the change to stop being a victim to addiction, I felt the need to spread the message. I wanted to lead by example and create a life that I love. I have a lot to say on the subject, but that’s it in a nutshell. I’d love to elaborate on the specifics in person.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The financial aspect of it was one of the most tricky parts. I was committed to making it happen, though. I sold my house and cut my mortgage in half to open up this coffee truck. Getting my wife on board with that was not easy.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a nerd for coffee and obsessed with trying to make a better product. The way we make espresso is not like most coffee shops make it. We use the freshest local coffee we can find (2-3 weeks old), we have a strict water to espresso ratio, and every espresso shot is timed and weighed to guarantee that we followed through on that ratio (timed espresso guarantees that we are consistent with our shots).
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ve never been one to toss things up to luck. I don’t like the idea of not having control. Things happen in life. Learn from it prepare for it. If things are going well, it’s because you made it so.
