Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherry McManus.
Sherry, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I worked for a company that does what we do and the company didn’t pay attention to quality. As sales director at that time, I was really tired of saying “I am sorry”. Some financial issues had caused my paycheck to bounce a few times and I was looking to make a move. One of my clients said – we would love to work with a “woman-owned” business. So I wrote a business plan and cashed in some resources and started doc2e-file in 1999.
I immediately got certified with WBENC and have been since.
We are still a small business but have weathered many events and issues that have made us a strong group of closely knit staff.
I have been privileged to have been a graduate of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 small business program and the SBA Emerging Leaders Classes – both have been very good for me and the company.
We have done business with many fortune 500 corporations and work with clients across the US.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We had a server struck by lightning and lost millions of client records that we had to re-process in year 2 of the business.
We had 9/11 and two evacuations due to Hurricanes. Ike wiped out our building in 2008 and we were forced to move. We have now also survived HARVEY – Praise GOD!
We have been, however, very blessed with fantastic, dedicated staff and clients. I wouldn’t say it has been smooth but the Journey has led us through much personal and professional growth that we wouldn’t have had otherwise. We still have far to go and look forward to every step smooth or otherwise!

I am proud that we have created jobs for many people without college degrees that have enabled them to springboard to higher responsibility and pay because of what they learned at doc2e-file Inc. I am proud that we have been able to create an environment where entry level isn’t at minimum wage. I am proud that we have been named supplier of the year by some very prestigious companies and have been named one of the fastest growing woman-owned business in Houston 3 times.
Truly what sets us apart is our attention to quality (ISO 9001) and our effort to absolutely understand our client’s need and fulfill it.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I am not a person who does would have, should have – I simply thank GOD for the experience and blessings and live each day as it is given to me!
