Megane, it’s been too long since we last connected. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with our community again. Some readers might have missed our prior conversations, so maybe you can kick things off for us with a quick intro?
The French Farm was founded in 1997 by Gisele Oriot, who is originally from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France known for its food culture and wine. After settling down in Houston, she realized something was missing. She longed for the high-quality gourmet food products and kitchen accessories that used to surround her back home.

How was the idea of The French Farm born?
Gisele realized that if she wanted the jams, mustards, oils, and cutlery that she so dearly missed, she was going to have to bring them to Houston herself. So, what started as a hobby, turned into a business, and The French Farm was born.

How do you select the products that you carry?
Gisele travels a lot to Europe to meet with the manufacturers and try the products that she is interested in. There are a few important food shows in Europe that Gisele tries to attend as often as she can to make discoveries and stay on top of the food trends.

Who are the main customers of The French Farm?
We have customers all over the United States and Canada. Most of them are grocery stores, cheese shops, gift shops… and we also have a lot of online retailers as well. Anyone who wants to resale our products can open a wholesale account by filling out our wholesale account registration: https://thefrenchfarm.com/wholesale/

Do you have a big customer base in Houston?
Ever since the opening of our offices in the Heights, we have opened our doors every year, a few times a year to Houston consumers. The goal is to allow our Houston customers to walk around our warehouse and get a chance to buy discounted items in a warm and friendly environment. The number of our customers in the Houston area is rising year after year and we’ve implemented a free warehouse pick-up option at checkout to avoid making our customers living close by pay for shipping.

Here are our warehouse opening dates for 2021:

1st weekend: Friday, November 12th to Saturday, November 13th
2nd weekend: Friday, December 3rd to Saturday, December 4th
3rd weekend: Friday, December 17th to Saturday, December 18th

Why do you think Americans are so attracted to European products?
For the past 20 years, America has opened its borders to new flavors from all around the world and Americans became more and more curious to try different things. A lot of food shows started to emerge and European cuisine, especially the French one, was always considered as one of the best foods in the world. With the evolution of the internet and the standardization of ordering food online, The French Farm makes it easy for people to order delicious European goods, all-year long.

If you had 5 items to recommend, which ones would they be?
A nice Camargue fleur de sel is essential and is a French pantry staple (checkout one of TFF’s best seller items Le Saunier de Camargue Fleur de Sel – https://thefrenchfarm.com/camargue-fleur-de-sel/ ).

A nice olive oil is also essential to add flavor to a simple vinaigrette or to simply use over vegetables (look at our French olive oil from Nicolas Alziari (https://thefrenchfarm.com/nicolas-alziari-cuvee-prestige-extra-virgin-olive-oil-tin/ .)

A dijon mustard is also essential in the kitchen and will add punch and flavor to anything. Check out Edmond Fallot Dijon mustard (https://thefrenchfarm.com/edmond-fallot-traditional-dijon-mustard/ .)

Our truffle honey from Pebeyre is a whole-time bestseller (https://thefrenchfarm.com/truffle-honey/)

And last but not least, if you haven’t tried our herbes de Provence blend, it will blow your taste buds! (https://thefrenchfarm.com/aux-anysetiers-du-roy-herbs-de-provence-in-ceramic-jar/)
