Today we’d like to introduce you to Damon Uherek.
Hi Damon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We started off as a competition bbq/cook-off team back in 2012. Travelled all around the greater Houston area competing in cook-offs including Houston Rodeo. After becoming successful in that arena we began catering and doing pop up events at local events/businesses. Now we’re about to break ground on a brick and mortar location off of Brittmoore, next to Powder Keg bar. We should have a good truck operational I. The next few months and open the restaurant after the New Year.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course not haha. The competition bbq scene is difficult, especially in TX and the Houston area. The market is saturated as we know, so it took some time to find our identity so that we stand out amongst the crowd. In addition, COVID has delayed our opening by over a year now, in addition to construction costs being sky high right now.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a BBQ company with a restaurant/food truck opening soon. With the city of Houston being as wild as they are about Rodeo Cookoff, we specialize in competition style bbq as opposed to the traditional “TX style” bbq that you find pretty much everywhere.
What makes you happy?
Smoke rollin’ on the pits, cold beer in my hand, and the smile on everyone’s face after that first bite!
