Hi Elizabeth, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! My name is Elizabeth Kendrick. I had my first child, my daughter Margaret, in early September 2020! I was thrilled to bring home such a sweet baby girl. When I started looking at baby clothes, I noticed a gap in the market for high-quality, heirloom pieces that weren’t outrageously priced.
After all, I learned quickly how fast Margaret grew out of clothes! I wanted to create a brand that allowed moms (and grandmothers and aunts) to celebrate the every day with special pieces they were excited to have. We love seeing the pictures that our customers send us of how they celebrate the everyday in Ann + Reeves Kids.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
So far, it’s been pretty smooth (knocks on wood). I’ve been so fortunate to have family and friends who have been hugely supportive, a network and neighborhood that was eager to be my first customers, and a lot of learnings I have picked up along the way!
That being said, this is actually my “side-hustle” and I’ve learned a lot about balance in these first few months. I’ve been able to apply my business skillset, though to Ann + Reeves Kids and I think it’s finally paying off! I learn something new every day and I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to pursue this passion.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Ann + Reeves Kids sells special, quality, heirloom children’s clothes for the everyday celebration! Going to the zoo – we’ve got an outfit for that. Celebrating Christmas – we’ve got an outfit for that! Getting a new baby sister – we’ve got something for that too! We love that we can find ways to make every day special for our customers. We are known for our hand-smocked outfits for boys and girls, sizes newborn to eight! We are able to produce really beautiful pieces without charging our customers too much! I’m proud of the community of moms I’ve gotten to know from this endeavor and watching their kids grow up through pictures they send us!
We sell mostly online on our own store but are starting to sell in local stores such as Bering’s Hardware in Houston, Babies on the Boulevard in Fort Worth, La Bebe in Midland and Picket Fences in Austin! We’re looking for new stores to partner with all the time!
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Gosh… ask questions, look for resources in unexpected places! I started reaching out to other women who ran similar businesses to mine on Instagram to learn more about things they wish they had known! I met some really nice supporters along the way who have become my very best friends! But also, don’t let your naysayers or mean comments get to you. You’re not going to win everyone over; you might seem threatening to your competition – don’t take it personally! It’s just the way things work sometimes.
