Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Tovar.
Hi Patricia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always known that I want to share my creativity with the world. I was a stay-at-home mom for three years to my beautiful daughter, but throughout that time, I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I could never just pick one career. I had my better half whispering encouraging words, telling me to take the leap of faith and go into creative work full time.
During all of this, I began posting a few cooking videos on Youtube. To my surprise, my third video, “Mexican Style Corn In A Cup,” blew up. This was when I realized my full potential. It was like a Rosa De Guadalupe moment! I made the decision to become a lifestyle influencer on Instagram and a content creator on Youtube full-time. There are so many benefits to being a growing Latina micro-influencer in The Woodlands. Making my own schedule, collaborating with brands I love, making friendships, showing my love for my culture, exploring new places near me, and just sharing my passions with the world are only to name a few. I tell this to everyone, but this isn’t a job to me. I genuinely enjoy every second of planning, styling, recording, snapping, editing and sharing. It’s art.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would love to say it’s all been smooth. However, I’ve struggled with inconsistency. When you’re a micro-influencer, it’s easy to feel like giving up when you don’t receive the engagement you want for something you worked so hard to create. It also doesn’t help when some brands only work with influencers who have over 10K followers. In the past, I would let this stop me. It just would get overwhelming thinking about how hard it was to gain organic followers. I quickly realized though, that the right people will find you. So I stopped worrying about it. Don’t get me wrong. You can work with amazing brands as a micro-influencer. I’ve worked with The Good Project, Bare Minerals, LTK and Hourglass. Influenster is a great site for many beginners to receive gifted items from top brands like Hourglass & Bare Minerals. In the beginning, you can’t expect to be paid immediately. It all takes time. I think that’s where people tend to give up. Patience is key in this business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
To sum it up, I’m a micro-influencer. I’m a lifestyle influencer on Instagram and Pinterest. I fit my favorite homemade dishes, local restaurants that I love, products I adore, my favorite looks, best deals from my favorite stores, and so much of my personal life on those tiny squares. A typical day of shooting content for a paid post on Instagram can consist of negotiating, location searching, weeks of planning, styling, having your husband know all of your angles, editing, sending over requests of approvals to the brand, and then posting. Phew! I’m sweating just thinking about it.
On Youtube, I babble about it all! From cooking with me, documenting big life milestones, finding thrift stores in Houston, and can’t forget the excitement of doing vlogmas, which I’m looking forward to doing this year! A typical day of vlogging can consist of weeks of planning, recording for hours, and editing until you pass out. Lol, just kidding. Kind of…
My subscribers and followers all mean the world to me. Receiving comments under my “How to Make Chicken Gorditas” video saying, “I made this to the T and now it’s my boyfriend’s favorite,” is the reason for all of this. I love the thought of my dishes being made by someone across the world. I take the positive feedback I have received and use it to fuel my work.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I don’t want to look back and realize I wasted years of my life playing it safe. I want to give it all I got right now. I have never not taken a risk and it be the best decision I made. For me, life is all about taking risks.
