Meet Kayla Keller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Keller.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
High-Level Fitness and Therapy, LLC was created with the intent of providing a space for clientele to have all physical needs addressed. Nutrition, Fitness and Sports Medicine are all offered within one business, which provides continuity of care and ensures that all components of wellness are considered and implemented.

Due to professional limitations, the fitness industry is not able to address the injury component for those experiencing chronic and acute pain, and that is where High-Level Fitness and Therapy fills in the gap. I offer a wide range of Sports Medicine services that include things such as injury evaluation, rehabilitation, cupping therapy and Graston.

I attended Indiana University, where I studied Athletic Training and minored in Exercise Science. I immediately started Graduate school at the University of Texas at Tyler and obtained a Masters of Education in Health and Kinesiology. While there, I was promoted and served as a lecturer at the University of Texas at Tyler for the Department of Kinesiology in conjunction with serving as the Assistant Athletic Trainer.

I was very fortunate to intern as well as work for St. Vincent Sports Performance, a company that gave me full freedom to develop professionally amongst some of the best in the industry. A special thank you to Ralph Reiff, Scott Hudson and David Craig, who have all served as mentors to me throughout my professional career. While the Athletic Training industry has expanded women’s involvement with men’s professional sports in recent years, it was more of a challenge early in my career. These three men believed in my abilities and gave me those unique opportunities. I served as NBA Pre-Draft Medical Director and also provided services for multiple NFL Combine Prep Classes through SVSP.

I have been practicing as a Certified Athletic Trainer for 10+ years and hold certifications in Personal Training, Corrective Exercise, Performance Enhancement and Nutritional Coaching. My specialties are Sports Medicine and combining injury prevention with personal training. I thoroughly enjoy being a part of a client’s journey, whether it’s on their fitness journey or recovery from an injury. It is a true joy to see clients achieve things they doubted before starting on their journey with me. I like to think that I offer an empathetic approach with a heavy pour of grit and hard work.

High-Level Fitness and Therapy started in Indianapolis, IN and relocated to Houston, TX in February of 2021. I am partnered with Leo Johnson at LJ Performance Training as the Sports Medicine provider and I am also a personal trainer in the facility. Leo has not only welcomed me in but is truly revolutionizing what we can offer clientele in the city. I feel very fortunate to be able to practice independently while also having such a synergistic partnership with him.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In terms of challenges along the way, relocation has been the biggest one. I left the Midwest, where my background was already well known. Moving to a new city was a huge leap of faith, as no one here in this market knew me.
