Rising Stars: Meet Noah Vickers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah Vickers.

Hi Noah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Noah Vickers and I am six years old. I am the owner and creator of Super Noah Super Math. My favorite subjects are science, math, and coding. Like most boys my age, I love to play video games and watch YouTube. I also like to draw and play little league baseball. My mom and dad believe highly in education so they ensured I begin learning at an early age. I have been learning since I was six months old! I started learning with the “Your Baby Can Read” videos and books. When I was old enough, I started attending daycare. The daycare I attended from 18 months old to four years old used the Montessori teaching method. The Montessori education system promotes independence, which allowed me to make creative choices in my learning. It was at this school where my parents and teachers realized I pulled more towards math and science.

When my school was shut down due to COVID-19, Mom and Dad continued teaching me at home. Dad took on math & reading while mom handled science and the arts. Dad used a video he found on YouTube that taught individual and blended letter sounds instead of just letter names. We practiced this method every day, and it helped me learn and blend sounds. I was reading before I entered Kindergarten. Mom and Dad knew because of my early exposure to learning, I would be above grade level. When I first entered Kindergarten, I was already testing on a high first-grade level. I also tested and participated in the Gifted and Talented Program at my school. To ensure I could learn at my level, mom and dad enrolled me in Kumon, a self-learning after-school program. Kumon was a great foundation, especially in math, allowing me to advance at my own pace. The methods used by Kumon allowed me to learn through repetitive and deductive reasoning. It also helped strengthen and sharpen my math skills. I still attend Kumon during the summer and school breaks. Because of all my early education, I am good at using mental math for addition and subtraction. I can also solve single number multiplication & division problems. All of my early learning assisted with the creation of Super Noah Super Math.

Super Noah Super Math is a math-playing card game for kids ages five and up, although anyone, including adults, can play this game. I created Super Noah Super Math on New Year’s Day. I started by simply drawing my favorite characters, Crash Bandicoot and Super Mario, on small pieces of paper. I call them paper figures. I wanted my dad to play along with me, and he thought that we should make it educational. When playing, Dad suggested we give the characters numbers and see who gets the most points at the end of the game. Mom thought it was a cool game but thought we should make our own characters for the game. After that, I made my own characters using my family and me. That was the beginning of Super Noah Super Math SNSM.

All of the SNSM characters were created by me. I love Marvel and superheroes, so I used a similar concept to make my game. I gave all my created characters unique names. I also chose their colors, their superhero powers, and their team names. There are two teams in the game: the heroes, “Team Vickers” or the villains, “Team X-Evil”. The characters in Team Vickers include me – Super Noah with super speed and math skills, Dad – Super Dad with X-ray Vision, Mom – Super Mom with force field power, my eldest sister Kaitlan- Super Kai with abilities to breathe underwater and my older sister Kelsey – Super Kel with Super track speed. The other team, Team X-Evil, includes Evil Noah – Super Noah’s arch-nemeses, Dr. N – creator of all things evil using math, Fire Guy – the villain who uses the sun to defeat his enemies, and Glazier – the villain who uses ice to take over the world.

The heroes of the game use addition to earn points and villains of the game use subtraction to take away points from the hero. The objective of the game, if you’re the hero, is to get your points up to 25 before the villain gets you to zero. However, if you’re the villain, you have to get the hero’s points down to zero before the hero gets to 25. Besides teaching addition and subtraction in a fun manner, the game also promotes number recognition for both positive and negative numbers. Moreover, it increases the use of mental math through repetition and the need for fast thinking. The game also includes action cards that make the game more fun. The action cards require the use of both reading and math skills. Overall, Super Noah Super Math is fun to play as the team’s race to be the math masters and also very educational.

Along with the game, we have products designed by my mom using the characters I created. We have shirts, lunch boxes, backpacks, kids’ blankets, masks, and socks designed with the characters. My website also features free printable math worksheets for kids. We are going to add some free worksheets that use the SNSM playing cards.

We have a lot of future plans for Super Noah Super Math as a game and as a brand. I plan to add new characters and new enemies. We are planning to introduce different levels for the playing cards to include higher-level addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. I would also like to have the characters animated, made into action figures, do early reader books and maybe even make it an app. There is so much we plan to do with Super Noah Super Math!

I encourage parents to buy this game for their children because it would help them with math while keeping them entertained. This fun game can also help them get super-fast at math. Super Noah Super Math was created by a kid for kids. It’s kid-approved. I hope that everyone who buys this game has a great time playing and becoming a master at math. I am very excited about the future of SNSM and proud of what I achieved. I love wearing my character products and playing my own game!
