Rising Stars: Meet Jose Emanuel Ramirez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Emanuel Ramirez.

Hi Jose, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The Mexican sunrise, that’s where it all started. Every summer I would visit my family in Mexico. The country, with its natural beauty and color, captivated my heart from the start. It was like watching the moonrise while being in love. One visit after high school was over. I got the chance to go to one of their national parks. I took this old Nikon camera just for fun and captured my surroundings around the trail.

My eyes naturally chose what areas were worth capturing, what positions and angles were needed to get the right shot. I was so fascinated by the outcome. The colors of nature and how the sunlight stretched throughout the horizon creating one of the most beautiful scenes I’ve ever seen. That small trip sparked my love for photography enough for me to continue taking images with my phone back home. The trees, the sunset or the clear blue sky. Anything that caught my eye. I would share them on social media and people would ask me what camera I would use, but it was just my iPhone 5. My love for photography has grown so much, and I continue to learn more about the art. I’ve reached so many people in so many ways, never wanting to stop. And I owe it all to my Mexican sunrise.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’s never a smooth road to pursue what you love. But it does get more clear as you learn and grow. When it comes to life, I’ve had my handful of struggles like everyone does. But I thank God I haven’t suffered as much. My mother’s health was a big wake-up call. But after having kidney failure, cancer and covid amongst other things. She’s still here supporting our dreams. When it comes to obstacles with my photography, it’s been nothing more than self-doubt, lack of creativity and poor marketing. Things many artists struggle with, but I’ve improved so much, and I’m only getting better. Thanks for the love and support, everyone.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
With my photography, I focus on natural light and the outdoors. I create scenes of comfort and self-love that are combined by one’s emotions and spirit with our surroundings. Then I write about them. My work inspires me to talk about life, love, pain, and beauty. I’m blessed to have this creative mindset to write poetry alongside my photography. I don’t think I’m known for anything specific, but I always tell myself that as long as I give meaning to my work or somebody is satisfied with the work we did together, then I’ll be just fine.

Growth would be the thing I’m most proud of. I really enjoy learning and listening to other people’s stories; There’s always something you can learn from someone. That being said, I’m also proud for all the beautiful souls I’ve met in this journey of art-making. They’ve inspired me and have helped me grow as an artist. My creativity is what sets me apart form the rest. Everyone has their own artistic touch. Even if I show you everything, I know from editing to my gear or what I use to shoot. You won’t be able to copy my heart.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Maybe going trick-o-treating with my brothers and mother. But it wasn’t until I got older that I realized her birthday is on the same day (Halloween). Yeah, my mom is a witch, but she’s a cool witch.
