Today we’d like to introduce you to Evelyn Rubio.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began working in acting at 9, musical bands at 15, saxophone at 20, later came a rocking blues band in Playa del Carmen & 10 piece Orchestra in Mx City. An invitation to Houston connected me with the iconic music lawyer Al Staehely (Spirit Band) culminating with my opening for BBKing and recording 3 albums with 2 of Mr. King band leaders m, Calvin Owens and James Boogaloo Bolden. Just released “Crossing Borders” to great reviews and working on my next projects in music and theater. My beat goes on.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say that the hardest part is to be accepted as a Latin female in the blues, soul genre. But for the most part, I have been enjoying the journey with its ups and downs.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m very proud of my most recent album ‘Crossing Borders” but I would have to say that having an album in two languages debut at number 1 number 3 and number 6 on the Billboard Charts was very exciting and that would be my album “Hombres” . I’ve been told that is my versatility what sets me apart and for example, I recorded songs in blues, rock, country and jazz genres.
How do you define success?
Being able to do what you love and have a family that supports you and is waiting for you when you arrive from a tour or a long night.
