Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel G. Rosas.
Hi Gabriel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Amealco Querétaro, México. When I was on middle school I started drawing little comics about our daily life and cartoons like Looney Toons and Japanese anime, along with my best friend Rafael. Every day after school we always draw together for hours, then my friend and I went to “la casa de la cultura” to learn more from our first art mentor Mr. Educ Granados, he taught us a lot. Then I keep drawing almost every day. My Dad was a barber I can say the best Barber of my town, everyone knew him, I used to see my dad draw his haircuts on paper, he was very good artist too! So I think it was hereditary, sadly my dad passed away this year 2021, it hurt us a lot he will live in our hearts.
Back to my art carrier, on 2004, I moved to Texas with my sister, I never had chance to go to art school but I never stopped drawing, I used to buy celebrity magazines to have references to draw, then I saw a fairy on one of the magazines and I just felt peace, freedom, the beauty of the flawless art, so I started drawing fairies on 2006, then 2010 I meet my beautiful girlfriend and showed me and taught me the art of watercolor, that’s when my fairies came back to life!
On 2016, we got married happies part of my life, my wife and my family always have supported me on my art, I have been on a couple art shows that I had an amazing experience, all this year’s I keep practicing and also taking photos of the mother nature to incorporate them to my art, I really didn’t liked the pandemic at all, but it taught me a lot, I resigned my job and dedicated 1 whole year to my art that it helped me to practice more and I had met more people that are passionate about art too, my wife it’s my best critic when I draw.
Without my friends & family I couldn’t be where I’m right now! I love this path I hope one day I can make more people happy with the magic of my art.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been easy, I have full time job over 11hrs per day, so I always find a gap on my day to create art. Sometimes I can’t feel the art in me then I get frustrated, But I take a breath and I try next day. If it doesn’t work, my wife always cheers me up to keep my head up!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been a restaurant manager for about 10yrs, I think that I have really good relationship equal with employees and customers, I always want them to feel happy either they are dining in or working with me. I been known for being funny looking and funny character they always seen me smile, I’m rarely on a bad mood.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I have learned that we need to look out for each other and not to be selfish, and the time that we are a part of our family and friends makes us value them more.
