Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylie Prall.
Hi Kylie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My name is Kylie Prall and I’m the owner of Common Moon Crystals. My journey with crystals began in 2016 and I quickly became obsessed. My first trip to a crystal shop I bought everything in sight. I started to grow my collection over the years and watch other shops grow on Instagram.
After working in a retail store for 5 years I got a little bored. The pandemic did not help solve that problem! As the tension in the world grew stronger I decided it would be best to start my own business and be in charge of something for me. I decided to sell crystals after watching one of my favorite shops (Desert Goddess Minerals) grow and post amazing minerals.
Once I decided to start my business, I hit the ground running and have been growing quickly since October of 2020! This experience has been a huge lift in my confidence and has made me excited to be a part of the crystal community. I have met some of the most amazing people throughout this journey and have created my own little family through an app.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Surprisingly, things have been pretty smooth. I have hit the normal bumps in the road like not having as many sales some months, or not gaining followers consistently. I feel all businesses struggle with this, so I am no different. The biggest struggle has been adjusting to being the own of a company. Going from being a retail employee on the floor, to being the one calling the shots has been eye opening. It has been a new experience for me as someone who has been in retail for years. There are pros and it’s cons, but I love it regardless!
We’ve been impressed with Common Moon Crystals, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I sell items for crystal healing! I spend the time to talk to my customers and help them pick out one of a kind pieces. No 2 crystals are the same! I put in a great amount of effort with each customer and take the time to get to know them. I always throw in free gifts with their orders to let them know I appreciate them and love them. My business is an open space for all sizes and colors. Especially when it comes to the people you love.
During February, another shop (Katakooltv) and I raised money for a local LGBTQ+ homeless shelter here in Houston. I want everyone to know that I love them for them and for supporting me. I love crystals and want to share them with everyone! Even if you don’t fully believe the healing properties, you can’t deny they are stunning to look at! They make my day happy and make me feel safe and comfortable.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
A childhood memory that always crosses my mind is spending time with my grandma in Galveston, TX. We would go almost every summer and spend the week enjoying the beach. She would also spoil me way too much and buy me all the goodies I wanted! She actually helped start my crystal/sea shell collection when I was a kid. Before I had any knowledge about the healing benefits and all the different types of crystals. Not to long ago she passed along my collection that we collected on these trips and it was another eye opening moment. I have always loved crystals!
