Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Langerud.
Whitney, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My love affair with hair goes back as far as middle school. I wrote in my best friend’s yearbook that I wanted to “grow up” to be a hair stylist. I graduated from Paul Mitchell Houston in 2009, and ordered the Color Specialist award for my graduating class. This is where my love of all things color truly began. I was fortunate enough to start my career at a small boutique salon in Rosenberg, Texas. With the support of the owner and a great group of talented stylists, I was able to hone my craft and build an amazing clientele. Last year, I reached the point where I knew I was ready to take my business to the next level. With the support of my family, friends and clients, I took a leap of faith and made my childhood dream a reality. Hair By Whitney opened its doors for business in June 2016.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, yes there have definitely been challenges, but my work ethic and strong desire to succeed always seem to get me where I need to be. As a single mom, I know my daughter Ella is always watching me and I want to be the best role model possible for her. I’ve learned that organization and balance help to make our lives much more manageable and enjoyable.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Hair By Whitney specializes in the latest color trends (Balayage, Babylights, Foilage), precision cuts and Brazilian Blowouts for women. I pride myself in mastering my techniques thru continuing education, and was also a Brazilian blowout educator for the greater Houston region. I take pride in giving my clients the one on one experience they deserve. I don’t rely on assistants because I’m a perfectionist; from the moment you sit in my chair until you walk out the door, you get my full undivided attention. I am Hair By Whitney.
What were you like growing up?
I can’t remember what sports I played or what my favorite subject was, but I can tell you this; as a child, I had beautiful curly hair. By 6th grade, I talked to my mom into letting me get the latest Japanese straightening treatment. In high school, I had horrible extensions. By college, I bleached my hair so much it was falling out. It would seem I have always had a passion for hair.
