Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlene “Leney” Meyers.
Hi Marlene, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
A good friend of mine who is very active on Instagram for her real estate career asked if I wanted to start the blog. I was already posting on my personal page about new restaurants and bars as well as events. I became the go-to girl for my friends when they were looking for a night out. She and I started the page together but her real estate career keeps her pretty busy so I run the page solo now.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say my biggest struggle has been balancing my full-time job with the blog. Making time for myself and my relationship is definitely a lot of work. I have gone through periods of time where I get burn out and don’t post as much, but then that hurts my engagement. I have to take care of me first though! Also, the constant change in algorithm doesn’t help either.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I like to post about new restaurants and bar opening as well as fun events. However, I also have a love for fashion. I actually went to school for it. So, from time to time I’ll post on my stories where you can find my outfit. I have a “fashion” highlight saved on my page. I also direct them to my personal page where they can get the details of the full outfit posting there. I don’t want to turn my page into a fashion blog, I want to continue posting about food, but sprinkle it in here and there.
I feel what sets my blog apart from other food bloggers is that I post daily Houston events in my stories. I try to post the full weekend on Friday’s to give people time to plan. I also have them saved in my highlights for quick reference.
What makes you happy?
My relationships with people make me happy. I’m outgoing and a people person so I need my friends and partner by my side. Food also makes me happy, of course! I’m not sure where my love of food came from. I grew up poor and we never ate out. The only time I ate out is if it was with a friend or family member. I would say my love for food has come in the last 6 years when I became a lot more independent and started going out more.
