Meet Reginald and Stacy Nichols of Step N Fit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reginald and Stacy Nichols.

Hi Reginald and Stacy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
During Quarantine ,we found ourselves locked in our homes, anxious, stressed out, overeating, and not being active. We turned to the internet to find programs that would keep us moving and healthy. We got together with family and friends and did workouts on Zoom once or twice a week. As we explored more fun ways to work out and stay engaged we ran across YouTube videos of Xtreme Hip Hop step aerobics and the creator Phil Weeden. We tried out some of his workouts online but his energy is what really led us to look deeper into his program and we eventually became Xtreme Hip Hop Certified Instructors!

We have been married almost 25 years and have two teenage sons. We have lived in the Houston and Spring area for nearly 20 years and are proud to call Houston home. In both of our families, we have seen the impact of obesity, cancer, heart disease and other chronic diseases and how they rob you of your loved ones. We have been on a mission to change our destiny and that of our family members by striving to live a healthy and active lifestyle.

We began having classes in December 2020 and haven’t stopped since. The business has become a family affair. It has been a great experience for meeting new people and building relationships with those with similar interests and goals.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With any new business there are challenges, but trying to do a fitness business in the middle of a Global Pandemic is the ultimate challenge! We are competing with huge corporate gyms and fitness brands, but we believe having that personal touch and knowing a person by name is important and keeps our participants engaged. There are times when we have a full class and others where there is only one person, but we adopt the motto of Xtreme Hip Hop–“Don’t Stop, Don’t Quit, Don’t Give Up”. Even if there is only one person that attends our classes, that is one person’s life where we can make a difference!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Step N Fit, we bring fun, energetic group fitness classes that are inclusive to all fitness levels, ages, shapes and sizes. We offer a high-energy cardio step aerobics class based on the exercise format popular in the 1990s but taken to the “Xtreme” with hip-hop music, and lots of swag. We also offer a new format that combines HIIT and Pilates inspired exercises that focuses on abs and glutes.

Our mission is to make fitness inclusive and accessible to everyone. Our classes include kids to senior citizens, women, men, and people of varying fitness levels. Our classes are small and intimate, we pride ourselves on taking out the time to ensure the exercises are appropriate and modified for every individual as necessary. We have found that by offering a personal touch and making sure everyone feels important and included, it creates an environment where everyone wins. You don’t have to be an expert or master the moves, we just want you to keep moving!

At Step N Fit you don’t just get one instructor, we are a family affair! Our sons are actively involved by either participating in the class or assisting participants with other areas like cleaning and disinfecting equipment.

We are proud to bring fun family oriented workouts to our community and want to continue to promote health and wellness as a great family activity, We offer group fitness classes in Spring, TX weekly and are available for special events. Add our fun class to your weekly workouts and become a part of our Fitness Family!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
As we began hosting classes, we’ve had faithful fans of the Xtreme Hip Hop format and fans of Phil Weeden join our classes both in person and virtually. They learn the same moves they see on YouTube but get that personal experience and extra coaching if needed. We’ve expanded to offer other formats as well, but Xtreme Hip Hop has been the thing that keeps our clients coming back. Of course, our family and friends have been our supporters from Day 1, attending classes and events and promoting Step N Fit on our behalf. We are fortunate and so grateful to have such a great team in our corner!
