Shayla Northcutt is the proud founder and CEO of Northcutt Travel Agency located in Houston Texas with team members throughout the United States. She started her own Agency in March of 2017 and has since become a multimillion dollar producing agency.
Running a travel agency is a lot of fun but it’s also a lot of work and a full business operation. We have a staff of 3 people and 30 travel agents that work on anything from destination weddings, honeymoons, cruises, family trips, Disney, Mexico,Caribbean, Europe, And any other destination in the world
Shayla believes that you have to know your product in order to sell it. The team has been to over 400 resorts and hotels all over the world and seen over 30 cruise ships. Shayla has been to over 40 countries as well and this is all in the past five years.
“When someone comes to me I want to be able to ask them all of the questions that I need in order to place them with the perfect location that they’re wanting. So many people can go online and book their trips based on reviews or the pictures that they’ve seen but we actually listen to people on their wants and needs and we are their concierge‘s throughout the entire trip in case anything happens”
The biggest question that Northcutt Travel Agency gets is “Do you charge an agency fee?” – they do not charge an agency fee to book or plan any travel as long as the travel is booked with Northcutt – they make a commission and that is compensation that keeps the business afloat.
She uses the same no fee model with her agents as well. All of the travel agents that join the Northcutt travel family are very well vetted and trained exclusively from Northcutt to be the best of the best. They are slowly growing to add more agents to their team to service more vacations.

Shayla is passionate about sharing her wins with others and helping to put any type of motivation towards a person that makes their minute or year a better one. She always tries to empower and coach her team to be the best that they can be. Her strengths include best business practices, social skills, technology, and fun.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s not always been easy. We just went through a pandemic where travel was banned.
We lost millions in sales. The travel agency isn’t paid until after the trip is completed so you can only imagine with all of the canceled trips in 2020 the financial struggles that we went through.
We are trying to rebuild and a lot of people do see the value in using a travel agent. The lack of compassion or the hold times that people had at a corporate level or an online travel agency level was eye-opening to people that were booking their trips directly online. Booking through us was much easier on the client because all they had to do was call us and we took care of everything else.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I think the most shocking thing is that our agency doesn’t charge an agency fee. Most people think that they have to pay our agency a fee in order to use our services.
There are agencies out there that do charge fees but we don’t and here is why.
